SRJC Web Development Program Final Presentations Fall 2000
Corrine Haverinen: haveart@sonic.net, 707-542-4501 Employment Objective: I am seeking employment as a web designer. I am interested in working on a web team as an independent contractor or in a permanent position. Skills: I have a background in Fine Art, Graphic Design and Illustration. I am very proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator. I have a working knowledge of ImageReady, Dreamweaver, HTML, Painter, Director, Quark and Pagemaker. Courses: I have a B.A. in Fine Art. SRJC classes: Intermediate and Advanced Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML A and B, Web Graphics A and B, Principles of Screen Design, ImageReady, Business of Web Design, Business of Graphic Design, Digital Prepress. Project Role: I was the designer, responsible for the look of the site, the mock-ups, splicing the images, and creating the templates. What I learned from the project: I learned the intricacies of working on a team, the importance of pre-planning the project, the issues and questions to work out with the client before jumping in, and th need for a timeline. I also got proficient at whipping up photo collages.
Amy Ahanotu: aahanotu@neteze.com, (707) 585-8336 Employment Objective: My hope is to develop enough contacts to help me build a successful freelance business. Skills: I have developed higher proficiency in HTML and SHTML. My design ability and html table construction is now over 100% what it used to be. The most important skill I developed was writing a web proposal and how to manage client requirements. Courses: Web Pages CIS 84.42A Adv. I was responsible for the administration, planning and execution of the project. I helped in other areas that needed attention and worked on assignments that an assinged team member couldn't finish. What I learned from the project: The main thing I learned from this project is how complicated web development is. As the Project Manager I learned the dynamics of human interactions and how to manage the resulting frustration in order to finish the project. I developed practical skills in graphic design, content development and project management.

I currently work for Luther Burbank Center as graphics and web designer and eventually hope to work on web and computer projects from home. Skills: HTML, Perl/CGI, Javascript, Java, C++ Basic design skills Mac and PC literate familiarity with UNIX and LINUX web site development and maintenance Courses: Beginning HTML Advanced HTML C++ Java FileMaker Pro Business of Web Design Telecommunications Beginning Photoshop Intermediate Photoshop Project Role: Programming and Content Development: I took two cgi scripts (one for a perpetutal calendar of events and the other for generating user data) and reworked them for the Office of Commission's specific purposes. I also wrote the HTML code for the home page, volunteer (including the volunteer form) and calendar pages, as well as Commission for Human Rights pages, and did troubleshooting for the site. I developed the timeline and workchart. What I learned from the project: I learned the importance of communication while working on a team. I learned just how much is involved in the development of a web site for a client, as well as the need for organizational skills and adherence to deadlines. I also became quite adept at troubleshooting and finding creative solutions and fixes.
Marty Gehlken: mgehlken@earthlink.net, (707) 769-7947 Employment Objective: I am currently employed with a Novato based law firm in developing their intranet. It is a job which combines both designing, programming and project management and I am quite content at the moment. Skills: HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Dreamweaver3, Photoshop, Illustrator, Homesite, C++. Courses: Beginning and advanced HTML, Javascript, Designing Graphics for the Web, Photoshop through advanced, beginning and intermediate Illustrator, C++, Web Content Practicum, design courses, and the online Portfolio class. I've also completed an internship. Project Role: As content developer for this project I drew up the list of deliverables, production standards and contract. It was also my responsibility to put the written content into the Commission on the Status of Women pages. What I learned from the project: The organization and planning that takes place before the actual design of the site takes place was an invaluable experience. This helped immeasurably in getting a handle on the many complex projects that I have under development at the law firm I work for in creating their intranet.
