Examples of student remarks

I am Tammie Furusho, Project Manager and Content Developer for the web team that built the Santa Rosa Junior College Emergency Preparedness website. I'd like to introduce the rest of the team:
Devlin Martinsen, Designer
Maria Gonzales, Content Developer
Margaret Ellsworth, Content Developer
Scott Larsen, Programmer

I would like to thank you all for coming tonight. We have each worked so hard to perfect these projects we have been working on for the past few months. For many of us, this was the first website we have built for a client. To say the least, it has been quite a learning experience and an amazing process.

(PM) As a single mother working full time and going to school, I thought I knew how to juggle and multi- task. This class has taught me otherwise. Being Project Manager, I found it a constant challenge to keep track of each individual team members progress and even just keeping in contact on a regular basis.

(CD) In my 2nd role as a Content Developer, I had to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to work with a software program that was new to me called Dreamweaver. I was surprised to learn how many of my classmates did the same. We taught ourselves how to use this powerful tool with extraordinary results. What this program can do is amazing; it allowed me to manipulate web pages without having to code in HTML. On the flip side, I was able to alter code with ease when necessary. I actually had a little-- okay, a lot-- of help learning how to use Dreamweaver from our designer, Devlin, who is going to explain how he built the template for us Content Developers to use to create the web pages.

In closing, I would thank Don Silverek, our client, for all of his enthusiam, effort, cooperation and vision. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that I learned so much more than I expected to walking into this class. We walk away with invaluable knowledge, experience and confidence. Thank you

Alexa Chipman

We are the web team for the Sonoma County Mobilehome Owners Association; I am Alexa Chipman the project manager which means I co-ordinate client relations and make sure the project is on track. This is Andrew Ferris the designer and David Turover the programmer and content developer.

The site was created to provide resources for mobilehome owners in Sonoma County when the park owners raise the fees to high levels. It also has information on membership in SCMOA and what the organization is about. For comments on the design we will turn to Andrew Ferris.

Steve Nelson

My name is Steve Nelson, I’m the web designer working with the team on the Sonoma County Job Links site.
I would like to thank Gary and Joanna for the great job they’ve done and to Linda for allowing me the opportunity to do my part as the team designer on-line. And for the great support she provided during this semester.

The look-n-feel for the design was determined by using the client’s logo and current color scheme which is part of their printed materials. In this way, the basic elements of the site match the printed materials which helps in promoting brand identity.

I felt that the collage image provided by the client should be the main focal point on the home page. This image was chosen since it depicts people in various working situations which best represents the services of Sonoma County Job Link.

I chose a top and bottom navigational structure with several drop-down menus which link to other pages that have more than one level of pages below them. This type of navigational structure was chosen for its simplicity and ease of use which also allows for the best use of available screen space.

I would also like wish Deana and the rest of the staff at Sonoma County Job Link great success with their new site!

Laura Winn

My name is Laura Winn, and I worked with Ken as content developer on this project. My job was made easier by sharing the responsibilities and having great teammates to work with. Ken and I worked together to sort through the existing content and build a storyboard that was the road map for easily navigating the new site. It was then trouble-free to create a shell site, placing the usable content inside, and proofread as I went along. Ken worked on the creative brief while I wrote up the production standards for our team. I also created on a new logo for the client which was new for me… both fun and a little frustrating at times. I wrote half of the web pages, and conducted the classmate testing.

Overall, this project was a great hands-on experience. I learned a tremendous amount about web production, taking a project from beginning to end. Teamwork played an important part of getting the project finished and I want to thank my teammates for their cooperation and their friendship. We had no conflicts along the way and everything ran very smoothly for us. I want to thank our client, Bill Hammerman, for being so easy to work with. He gave us a basic outline of what he wanted and then turned the project over to us with confidence that we could create a site he would like. And, last but not least, I want to thank Linda for being a great instructor. Without her insight and understanding I don’t think we could all have managed so well.

Irene Harper

Because the Independent Eye is a theatrical group, I was able to use my imagination with this site.

The fine font and the corner graphics were used to bring a little elegance to the site.Earth tones were the color scheme the client was most interested in, The client had sent me a map which I took sections of and applied filters to in photoshop
To create the background. The plaid that I used in the navigation bar and the backgrounds of all the photographs was something I added the rust colors to the site for a little contrast.

For the slide shows, I decided to use an applet because many of the frequent visitors are
In the age group of fifty or above, and it has been my experience that people in this age
Group will leave a site rather than download a special player like what is required with

Flash animations.
The photographs were fairly dark, although very clear, so I applied a duotone to them
And brought the opacity down to 75% so the plaid background would show through as
The effect that the client liked.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with my teammates and our client.

Conrad was extremely well prepared and knew what he wanted which made my job A great deal easier to do.A cascading style sheet was used with the site which made it easier to keep font colors and styles consistent as well as providing the colored scroll bars on the site.

Working with the client and my teammates during this project has enriched not only my understanding of the process of creating a site from start to finish, it has given me valuable information to carry with me in my future as a freelance designer.

Gary G.

GOOD EVENING and WELCOME – My name is Gary XXXXXX. I was the project manager for the Sonoma County Job Link website.
The balance of my team consisted of Joanna XXXXXX, the team content developer and Steve XXXXXX our team designer.

Also present is Dena XXXXX, the Sonoma County Job Link manager who was our client contact. In addition, Lois XXXXXX was also helpful in developing the site content.

Our success with this project was dependent upon the cooperation and participation of everyone involved.
The project manager’s primary responsibility was to act as a liaison between the client and the team to insure that everything ran smoothly, meet the deadlines and resolve any problems that might arise or occur.

Sonoma County Job Link is a non profit Sonoma County organization that is an online resource that offers access to information and services to local and transitional job seekers and local employers. Our objective in the redesign of the web site was
1. To excite the first time user and create a desire to explore
the site further, and
2. To encourage previous visitors to return periodically to
review the content to see if more information and updates
have been posted.

Ultimately, our goal was to create a site that was clean, easy to navigate, well organized and present the message that Sonoma County Job Link is trying to project. Our primary target audience was Sonoma County residents who are looking for a job, a new career or educational opportunities and for employers who are looking for qualified employees. The tone of the site was to be serious, clean and have an inviting look that projects a “WE CAN HELP YOU” flavor. Based on the finished product, I am confident that we accomplished all of our objectives and goals.
I especially like to thank my team members who have worked hard and diligently to complete this project in a timely and professional manner.
If I had to do it over again, I would want Joanna and Steve to be part of my team. Once again, thank you both.

Dena, thank you for your participation in our project and as a token of our appreciation we would like to give this gift for all of your efforts.
Finally Linda, what can I say, this is my second class with you. You were before as you are now a great instructor and we appreciate the help and direction that you have given us throughout the course. Here is a token of our appreciation.

Thank you very much. At this point I would like to introduce Steve Nelson our designer who will describe his portion of the project on video.
Thank you very much.
