Lesson #2
Initial Client Meeting - Information Sheet

Here is a list of the essential information you must gather during the initial client meeting. You are required to modify and expand this list - I just thought it would be a helpful beginning.

What is the purpose or goal of your website?

Who is your audience, target market, typical visitor?

What information do you plan to include?

How much of this information currently exists and what form does it exist in?

Who will provide us with the information?

Where will the site be stored?

Who will maintain it after the class is finished?

Who are the primary decision makers for the project, how will we communicate with these folks (phone email visits etc)

I recommend you ask them to provide 2-3 examples of sites they like and ask them why they like the sites.

When you make the initial phone call do the following:

Identify yourself as the representative of the web design team from SRJC.

A comment about how enthusiastic or excited you are wouldn't hurt.

Explain that the initial meeting can take between 1-2 hours.

Mention that there are questions you will be asking them and determine if they would like like you to send them the questions ahead of time or present them during the meeting.

If they are not going to look at your questions first ask them to bring all the existing materials that they would like to use at the website and to surf the web to find 2 sites they like.

Set a time and place for the meeting - usually their office, however if they do not have Internet access the campus may be better. Meeting at their home isnot appropriate.

Exchange phone #s and email addresses so you can communicate if there is a change of plans.
