Project Role: I am both the Project Manager and the Programmer for this project. As the Project Manager I organized the proposal, designed and developed the project site, encouraged the team, communicated the deadlines and made sure that all details were taken care of. As the Programmer I was responsible for the implementation and modification of the events calendar, implementing the random image generators and developing the "Contact Us" form.

What I learned from the project: My thirteen years experience as a project manager helped me tremendously in preparing to manage this particular project. I must say that my success on this project is directly related to each of my teammates. They are all eager to learn and willing to work hard to accomplish the goals we set at the beginning of the semester. The one thing that differentiates this project from the thousands of other projects I have managed is that this is the first time I have had to deal with more than one client on a given project. The politics of working on an SRJC website can be quite daunting. I learned how to give the client what they want within the Public Relations guidelines as well as the Computing Services guidelines.

Project Role: As the designer for the Culinary Arts web site, it was my responsibility to develop the ?look and feel? of the site based on existing concepts the client already had in mind. I developed mockups for final approval, templates for the content developers to insert client and Culinary Arts program information, and optimized client photography for web presentation. Other key responsibilities included meeting aggressive deadlines, and communicating effectively with other project members and the client.

What I learned from the project: In my opinion, the critical importance of strong leadership (PM), the value of frequent and responsive communication among project members, and an individual AND team commitment to a project are the key success factors at work here. Establishing a mutually respectful and communicative relationship with the client is also essential. Finally, identifying key people in an individual (and team) support network, and knowing their strengths, weaknesses and interaction characteristics is also crucial. Most of these things I've learned from past experience, but they continue to hold true for me today in all areas of my professional life. It was truly a privilege for me to work with my other project members and for our client.
