I've been taking computer classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College for several years. I took the HTML 1 & 2 classes last spring and I really liked it but, I find it really difficult to make my web sites have a pretty layout. And if I can get them to have a "pretty" layout it would take me more rime than it should.

It was online, and I need to learn how to design more effective web pages. I recently took over the management of the website for the local branch of a world-wide organization. It's pretty clunky, and I'd like to make it better.

Computer experience -
I started programming in 1982 and got my bachelors in Computer Science in 1990. Because of that, I have rarely had to do any real work since. Most of my experience has been in software development of large commercial software projects. My main interest has always been in algorithm design, as opposed to actual coding, which is full of messy details and has potential for endless frustration -- and which I generally have to do anyway.

Hobbies & Interests
I like writing fiction and songs. I'm not particularly good at either, but that doesn't stop me. I am also interested in the history of mathematics, and I enjoy helping people afflicted with math-phobia, as I once suffered from the same condition. I also enjoy helping people with computer problems, because I can and they appreciate it. One of my favorite things is depositing unemployment checks, but I doubt if I can keep it up much longer. Oh, and I happen to have the best dog in Santa Rosa. His name is Danny. I got him from the animal shelter in 1999. He is mostly border collie.

I'm hoping that this class coupled with the two HTML classes will give me the foundation to begin developing basic web pages as well as unlearn some sloppy habits I have acquired over the years from trying to do it on my own. Initially I wasn't interested in creating web pages, but after taking the first HTML class from Linda, I had so much fun that I'm looking forward to learning some more.

Computer experience -
I have worked with computers since the days of punch cards. Most of what I do these days revolves around creating databases in Microsoft Access, and creating images in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I have used both Macs and PCs but work mainly with PCs both at home and at work.

Most of my spare time is spent exercising (bicycle riding and running) and working in my garden. I also collect rare recordings of rock concerts and listen to lots of music.

All was green and grey and, from a aesthic perspective, totally dull. Since, by the end, all of the agents were updated via telephone, I acquired a bit of knowleged about teleprocessing. I've taken CIS 58.51A and 58.51B.

I'm a reader of fiction and non-fiction, and I belong to three book groups. I'm active in a couple of political organizations. I have an extra large standard poodle. Together we've been through several obedience classes and some agility training. Neither of us proved to be particularly agile. Describing my computer skills at this point in my life is comparitive to my driving skills and knowledge of cars. The first computer I used was a Mac back in 1987, but quickly found PCs far more assessible $$-wise and to work under the hood. Since then, I've continued to develop the range of skills and applications used.

I enjoy gardening for many reasons. Food production being foremost as a way to stay connected with the Earth and the food I eat. For me the idea of organically tending the earth is a co-operative process that supports life, draw out the best each has to offer, and in return provides me with healthy produce & herbs and feeds Mother Earth for the next generation. About a year or so ago, I started to get interest in doing a website for my homebase office business. Since then -- I have larned HTML, CSS and hopefully - PHP next term. My business office website is still developing and I think I am almost there. Plus, I might be able to use it within my business (manageing website for businesses). In the last few weeks last term - Jeffrey Diamond mentioned that you were having a course on web page tips and tricks. I asw your item posted on the third floor that day and signed up for it. I am thinking I need to know the what tips I needs to make the web site more friendly (fonts, graphics, etc.) and some tricks so I don't have to work so hard in getting it up and running. During this time, I am have tried many items in color, etc. I think it is time to be more conservative and to learn more about what I can use and not use to have a very tasteful website.

My interest in web design stems from my work in print design and from my daily use of the internet. I am taking this class to gain the "insider" knowlege that Linda Hemenway is here to teach us. At some point I will be creating an online portfolio of my work. I want to know all I can of how to create an attractive web site within a reasonably short period of time. I am giving myself a year to learn the basics, and my hope is that over time this new design skill set will round out my appeal to clients and employers.

Computer experience -
I began working on an AT&T personal computer in the 1980's. It had a really small screen and an even smaller hard drive. If I am remembering correctly, it had only 512k storage space or something like that. It only got better from there. I attended the Applied Graphics certificate program at SRJC and completed it in 2000. I have been working in graphics April 2000. I am proficient in Quark, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat, with experience in InDesign, Freehand, and Painter. The last and only web class I completed was HTML1 a few years ago. I think I am a little "rusty", but I know as I use it again it will all come back to me.

Hobbies & Interests
Cooking, visiting with friends and family, taking walks in parks and woods, feeding the ducks at Sonoma State with my little nephews, or as they put it, "Let's play feed the ducks!".

Let's see, hmmm, how 'bout since 1979? Started out keyboarding and typing code (my boss wouldn't buy us mouses!!). Was a software trainer for 5 years, then Tech Coordinator for a school district for 4 years (hardware -Mac and PC / software / network support and maintenance). Took a class in HTML and enjoyed it immensly. Now unemployed and following what I enjoy.

Hobbies & Interests
Well, since I've been out of work I've been anything but bored! Took a class in HTML; sewed a wedding dress for my niece; painting and photography - esp. playing with Photoshop; just hiked Half Dome for the second time; gardening; cooking sumptous, wondrous foods (mmmm chocolate anyone??); just took the top off the Jeep and expect to do some summer kayaking and off-roading; and on-call for aging parents.
