After earning my B.A. in psychology, I did four years of post-graduate work in math, with an emphasis in computer science. Before returning to school full-time I worked as a computer programmer. I've taken several on-campus and online computer courses at SRJC, including HTML. However, it has been a while since I took HTML so I imagine I'll be spending the first few weeks catching up along with learning new skills.

My experience is not that special. I use Windows and Office. I use Firefox as my main browser. To economize, I use several free, lean but good security programs. I don't tolerate bloatware that much, so for example I don't use Adobe Reader and instead like Foxit Reader.

My first class was back in the DOS days. I took a computer apart in class, mostly it was done to demystify them. Then I moved onto Microsoft programs very early versions. Its not always too easy for me but it shouldn't be too hard for me to figure out. I grasp things pretty quickly.

In my spare time, I like to hang around my computer loging into networking sites such as MySpace and FaceBook and play with games. What I enjoy the most is playing badminton almost everyday. I am responsible for maintaining the SCMAA (Sonoma County Medical Association Alliance) website and want to do the best job I can. This spring I took Dreamweaver B and enjoyed it very much, and want to continue learning about web design. I am also administering a Y-chromosome DNA study and have a web site for that which my co-admin and I designed several years ago before we really knew what we were doing, and it could stand to be redesigned. To say the least.

I have had a PC for 15 or so years and am largely self-taught. Last year I started taking classes at the J.C.: 101 A & B, the HTML classes, and Dreamweaver A & B. Programs I use include a genealogy program ("The Master Genealogist"), a deed mapping program ("DeedMapper"), a bit of Excel and of course word processing and email.

About three years ago I stepped away from Web Design, not entirely, just enough to make myself obsolete! I have decided to become current and begin marketing my work. I cannot think of any better way to channel my energy and talents. I feel very fortunate because I have taken quite a few of Linda’s classes, she is a great teacher and great to work with so I am looking forward to this class tremendously. My biggest worry is to let her down. She knows my work and I would like to fulfill her expectations and exceed them in this class. I feel like I have added stress because I should already know what I am doing. Art is a gift for me, code isn’t, so we shall see were the variance lies.

I started with my first computer in 1999, yes, just before all the hype about the millennium bug. People were very concerned how computers would be affected once the year 2000 rolled around. My first class was CIS 5 – an informational class explaining simple things such as browsers, operating systems, and software. At that time I didn’t even know what a hard drive was much less a graphics card or the power of PhotoShop. In that respect I have learned a lot, and find myself once again on a journey to learn even more. I appreciate the ability to learn and know this class will be terrific.

Hobbies, hmmm…. I enjoy almost anything pleasant, hiking, swimming, painting (although I seldom paint because it requires a certain focus I do not have at this busy time of my life), gardening, jewelry making, pottery, and reading. I have been working in the IT industry since 1975. When I started we usually referred to the Information Technology industry as Data Processing at this time. I have held jobs ranging from on site technical support for both Bank of America and Fireman's Fund Insurance to application development using Lotus Notes, WEB development, and JAVA. Loads of accounting/spreadsheet experience as a user.I have implemented several accounting systems and have worked closely with designers in that role. I have used Mac and PC and use a Mac now, but it has a dual processor and I have Vista loaded.

Hello! My apologies for the late check-in, three-day weekend completely threw me off. I am interested in Web Development, and have been for years. I took HTML about 11 years ago with a career change in mind then, but my daughter was a baby, and it was too difficult to keep going. So, here I am in 2009 and ready tackle it again, now with CSS! I am looking forward to learning all I can from this class, and exploring the idea of a career change into the tech world again...

Computer experience -
Well, I had the 1997 experience of HTML, and I did build a few web pages. In my current position as the Program Coordinator for the CANDEL program at Sonoma State, I created the website for our joint doctorate program with UC Davis, using the UC Davis server and CMS: http://candel.ucdavis.edu/ Its not pretty, but I don't have much user access to more creative tools. Trying to upload pictures is a chore, and often I have to spend too much time tweaking the size for the picture to fit correctly. In addition to this, I am a Mac user, my trusty PowerBook G4 laptop goes just about everywhere with me. I am proficient in Word, fairly good with Powerpoint and Photoshop Elements, and okay with Excel. At work, I use a desktop PC (Dell) which drives me crazy sometimes, but I try to have an open mind, and its good to be familiar with both sides. I spend about 75% of my office time on email anyway, so the differences are minor.

Hobbies and Interests
My hobbies include volunteering at my daughter's school, photography, baking, yoga, and I am a hopeless gym rat. I am interested in politics, public education, health and most importantly, communication - I am a shameless email addict (I do not have a facebook or myspace account). My husband is my biggest inspiration when it comes to the tech world - he worked for Apple for 15 years writing printer driver code (zzzzz). I've taken HTML 1 & 2 and Dreamweaver 1 & 2 at SRJC. (I'm also taking Photoshop this semester.) I have been working with computers since 1976 doing data entry, word processing and secretarial work. I work on the hardware of PC computers and built my own computer.

I have been a programmer for about 30 years. First starting with mini-computers using a tty and punched tape after you loaded the boot loader via the front panel toggle switches. They were the old Computer Automation computer systems used with the Finnigan Mass Spectrometer. I built my own computer, an 8085 s-100 buss IMSAI. This was an upgrade from the older 8080 IMSAI and also had an operating system, CPM, which made programming a lot easer. It also have a boot eprom, no more front panel toggle switches. Most of my early programming was in assembler for a number of mini-computers, the Nova and Eclipse come to mind . Later we had Fortran IV and Pascal. Much of my programming experience has been in the embedded world. I enjoy real time operating systems and servo control as well as low level driver development. While most of my current programming is done in c, a language I love, I also program in c++, VB, java as well as some c#, leave it to microsoft to try and get you to buy what you can have for free from sun.

I have more hobbies that I have free time. I enjoy woodworking, building model 18th century sailing ships, astronomy, electronics and programming. It is nice to have a job that you can also have as a hobby. My wife tells me I've had an extended childhood.

CSS is almost mandatory for web design. Despite the fact that Dreamweaver writes CSS - any web designer should know how to read and write the code. I took HTML August 2003 - times have changed. However my basic understanding of HTML has proved to be key in any web design project. Understanding CSS is a must know.

My first experience with a computer was in the late 1970's. Mid 80's I learned "Word Perfect", although why they called it "perfect" is questionable. Computers were monochrome screens with dot matrix printers. And we thought this was state of the art. 1991 I purchased my first Apple computer - color screen and lazer printer. Tech breakthrough. Playing around with Photoshop and other design software was little more than frustrating. Not until August 2003 did I have full time to devote to focusing on a formal education in the field of computer design. some 70+ units later and I'm still taking computer courses.

Reflecting on my own past history - I like my life. I lived at Tahoe for 20 years, skied all winter, water ski and softball all summer. I graduated from San Jose State with a teaching credential in 1970 - but never used it. I was hired by TWA and spent the next 35 year galavanting around the world. Now retired, I am able to pursue my second passion - computer/video design and production. My own goal is to create a cable network documentary about the history of TWA. I have a lot of original material to work with, its a matter of determining how best to present it. September I flew coast to coast round trip in a 1937 Lockheed 12A Electra, once owned by TWA. I used to repair computers, then the money in repair went down to almost minimum wage unless your working on the big machines. So I started doing work on the equipment around the computers. I found there was more money there for me, because everyone suddenly knew how to fix computers. I've programed computers in languages like 6502, 8080, and 8086 machine or assembly languages. Basic and DOS then in a windows enviroment. Then I got on the web and started learning HTML in about 2000. I've also taken some classes in Flash.

I have been using a computer since kindergarted. I can use most programs. I have no idea how to computer program. And I am no good at setting up computer networks. I enjoy playing on photshop.

I have always worked with computers (since the Apple IIe of my childhood!) In college I learned telnet and through employment I became proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe programs, often assisting staff in setting up computers and loading applications. Studying the W3C tutorials online I was able to create (invalid) webpages but eventually ran into a brick wall when the tutorials abruptly ended. My main interest is my 2 year old daughter Morgane. My family just moved back to Sonoma County after 6 years living in Europe and before that 5 years studying in Santa Barbara. I'm getting ready to make a job change in the next year, and I'm considering focusing on web design as a career (see below).

For the past 11 years I've been the primary IT person at a private firm managing cellular telephone companies across the company. I've done LOTS of things from server and network design, deployment and maintenance, end user support, some light website work, and everything in between. My first computer was an Apple II in 1981 on which I set up an arcane database and did my writing on a glorified memory typewriter on which I could also play Lemonade Stand and Wavy Navy. Here's hoping that "You can't teach old dogs new tricks" isn't really true. It's been well over 10 years since I've taken HTML, and as you can guess, I'm very behind on the new methods, including tags that have changed drastically. This class is just for my info. I do some simple web sites for friends from time to time and want to catch up a little.

Computer experience -
I've done repair and service for over 30 years and mostly use photoshop and databases. (Photoshop is another one I need to refresh.

Hobbies and Interests
When my body allows, I love hiking and the outdoors. Also, my yard isn't a 'garden', it's a 'jungle' with so many plants! I like photography, but mostly work with photos a friend takes. I enjoy traveling, camping, horseback riding, snorkling, reading and music.

I am taking this course to get a better idea of how CSS is standardized. I self taught myself HTML and CSS long ago and i still learned new stuff from the classes about the hierarchy of tags and what tags cant sit alone in a file. I'm hoping to learn many techniques that can assist me in the design of amazing, and professional web pages to add to my resume.

Computer experience -
I have been messing with little features since i was about 14, i was always interested by the computer. I started designing (though they were crude) web pages when i was a sophomore in high school. they werent that great in retrospect, but everyone starts somewhere. After about a year or so i started messing with various layering styles and eventually i got some interesting looks from simplistic, to complex. My goal is to take the page one step further and make it Dynamic.

Hobbies and Interests
I am a Keyboardist for a slow-starting Reggae band, i guess that will be a theme for my pages for the class. other hobbies are HTML. I'm not one for hobbies.

I started with an Apple IIE in the early 80s. Once I startedusing the Mac I was seriously hooked. I use an iMac in my office and have G4s at home. I have been teaching in the Computer and Imformation Sciences department since 1994. Prior to that time I also taught computer classes at Montgomery High School.

I love to work in the garden, read, and take walks with my husband in Annadel, Mammoth, Humboldt Redwoods, etc. I am the mother of 3 children
