The original file lesson two appeared different to the one in the video. It took a long time to get the validation cleared. After following the video I was able to reduce it from 141 to 63 errors. from there it took another 19 error debugs and most of the night to get it down to 0.
I have a question regarding the need to put a closing Ol tag at the bottom instead of at the end of the list to validate, and why the closing li tag also had to be at the bottom of the page instead of at the end of the ordered list before the closing Ol tag.
Also why the font tags had to go in order to validate.
Best,
Des.

I know nothing about "old" HTML so it was a challenge figure out some of the stuff that didn't belong. The assignment provided a good review of XHTML to start the class.

I ordered the required dvd through the link provided (http://www.ccnow.com/cgi-local/cart.cgi?videogeeks_04_continue-page) on the section website (http://online.santarosa.edu/section/?10251) but I am pretty sure that they sent me the wrong disc. It said "CS 50.21A&B Webpage Design with CSS" on the face of the dvd. I am still straightening that out, so I tried to do the assignment without the lessons so as not to make my work late. But I only created more errors. Now it is the minute of the deadline so I am throwing in the towel for the time being. :(

I found this to be a good brain stretch. I took the HTML A & B classes last semester, so I was already very recently familiar with the concept of validating code.
Generally speaking, I dislike cleaning up another person's code, but I can understand the necessity of knowing how to do it.
Also, I corrected several spelling errors and a few grammatical errors as I went through.

I hope I did this right! :)
I wanted to mention, I'm also in APGR 72, and am using the student server to upload my files for that class too. My index.html is a page linking to both classes. Is that okay?
Thanks,
Jaena

Quite interesting if somewhat simple. However If I was actually going to try and update a complicated site I would probably just rip all the data off the old site and make a new site. It is easier to just build anew then rebuild the old. :p

I posted a question to the class and Linda on the message page and I think it is something that should be looked at.
Is this just an exercise to let us know how things work or do you really go through this when updating an old page?
If you talk to a contractor he will tell yo uthat remodeling is much harder and more time consuming than building from scratch. It seems that this would hold true for reworking old web pages too.
Would it not be faster and much easier to pull the content from the old page and make a write the code fresh since we already know what the page should look like when we are finished.?

I'm not sure why the URL for my homepage is:
file:///C:/Users/sabrina/Application%20Data/SSH/temp/homework%20%282%29.html
it has always been
http://student.santarosa.edu/~breaminchew/css/homework.html
but now it is saying they cant find it. Also when I checked my links to the old and clean page before I up loaded it to the student server they all worked fine but one I check it when it was uploaded they would not work. I have check my codes and they all look fine but I still cannot get them to work.

Now if I can only view my site homework page.

I made one deviation from your homework sample in the clean-code and that was to the Meta tag to remove the warning message in the validator.
I altered it to: charset=utf-8
I also added a little color to the homework page to make sure I don't confuse my page with anyone else's, since we have the option of reviewing everyone else's pages.
I hope an additional CSS link is allowed.
Thanks,
Jane

I am receiving a warning when I click on the validation button at the bottom of my page:
The character encoding specified in the HTTP header (utf-8) is different from the value in the element (iso-8859-1). I will use the value from the HTTP header (utf-8) for this validation.
utf-8 is not specified anywhere in my html code. I can change the character encoding declared in my meta tag to utf-8 and this would remove the warning. Do you want me to do so?

It took me a little while before I fully comprehended the whole class setup, but now that I get it all, I feel comfortable.
I wasn't sure if I were supposed to add a style sheet to my homework page, so I added a simple one for the time being.
The assignment itself was actually very helpful; at first I though, "oh great, a no-brainer." But realistically, I'm sure I will encounter that exact situation if I were to inherit an old website.
All in all, this assignment got me real excited for the class :)
