Hello, this is Austin Thom! I actually completed and uploaded the webpage to the server on Tuesday (and haven't modified it since then, today being Friday), but I was sick and didn't realize I needed to formally submit it to you. I would HOPE that I could get credit for completing the assignment on time, but if that isn't the case I understand.
PS - I played around with the body quite a bit, but forgot to do anything with the title at all, so I accept responsibility for that.

Finally. It worked. Because my file saved as a Firefox file (because my folder option was set up incorrectly), and I could not figure out how to change it, I ended up re-doing everything tonight. It did not take long, copy and paste and I was able to save it as index.html (it was index.html.html before). Don't ask.
However, after uploading to the server,I realized that i had mistakely copied the Garden site Validator the first time. Strange, because I thought I had checked my earlier URL and it came up "clear". Anyhow, when I reloaded my NEW site, 11 errors came up, too many
and a &. I wanted to hurl myself through the window. Slowly but surely I figured it out and it was validated correctly this time. Hopefully, everything checks out. I did learn a lot.

It took me much longer than I expected, due to the fact that I was unaware how to name the file in Notepad: index.html and "all files" and ANSI.

I think I have the basics down here. Ironically enough, when players in the game I'm covering mention guilds, they surround the name with < and >. For instance, someone would say, "I'm a member of
This assignment was a fun hands on assignment.
Here it is...
This was Fun...
Once I found fixed the problem on the public folder it was easy.
I submitted and sometimes when I tried to validate I got a message
NO REFFERER SENT!
I wish I knew what that means.
It is gone now and it validates.
My url for 6968 is:
http://student.santarosa.edu/~rcolorad/2009spring/cis6968a/
If I use:
http://student.santarosa.edu/~rcolorad/
I get more posts.
I have sent you an email with a problem I am having.
I am chomping at the bit to start making modifications to the site. A little color, some pictures and formatting the text. Can't wait for the next lessons.
I was surprised that I had difficulties (initially) in getting my folder setup, but a little sleep and a fresh start and I finally got it going. I also had to do some tracking down of errors to get my validation to get on track. Nothing like having to pay attention to the little details.
It was pretty fun despite forgetting about those damn closing brackets and closing a header with a .
I'm not sure I completely understand the validation process.
Good to know about the validator.
Is there an error translation resource available?
buffieh@gmail.com
It took me a little longer than I thought it would... : )
Not sure why that was so confusing, just glad I figured it out! Hopefully it gets easier after this!
i am sorry i am 3 minutes late, i had trouble finding my password to put my page up.
No comments at this time.
I tried to stick to a little easier theme this time than when I took the class before. It was pretty easy to put this together but I know it gets harder :) My page validates.
Not much to say at this point in time.
I'm very happy with my recipe site :)
I'm glad I could finally validate it.
all code on my intial webpage is subject to change at any time
I am glad we learned about the validation service.
I had a lot fun, but Ialso got stuck on validation and finally made it. I was running out of time.
Thank god.
I have soooooooooooo much to learn!!!!
I have created a matrix of the diferent Web Projects I'm working on. The goal is to allow me to get to the various projects and versions quickly and easily. The page's main feature is a table of the various projects; the rows contain Project Name and page names and the columns contain links to all of the pages at various points in time.
I don't know if this is a good implementation or not, but it seems to work.
It's not easy - I'm lost pretty bad - But I'm very patient to learn - Make mistake and learn from my own mistake but it's fun - Thanks
I wish I knew more HTML.
Linda, Thanks for your help!
I had some bugs to work out on this assignment, but I think I worked it out... whew.
my only problem was with validating of which I e-mailed you.
I,m sure glad I'm getting this done . mark howard
Cool
Finally
I now have a website for my photographs and look forward to putting some on my page!
That was fun, and the validator is a trip!
Thanks.
The site is just about my family and friends. Cant wait to add pics (as soon as I know how). Hope you enjoy.
This is mysite which I never have time to update, because I am always teaching HTML
This was fun.
Sorry, I guess I didn't submit this code?
First I did the garden page and up loaded it ,then I managed to figure out I was supposed to make up my own page so I did it. I hope this was correct. It is nearly midnight.
I couldn't validate until I replaced the tag at the top of the page with this longer tag:
I don't remember this being discussed.
i think i did everything correctly
I had trouble with validation. For some reason the validator wanted to validate for 3.2.
I had a little trouble at the start of the assignment but I just used the text book as a guide and it was easier than I thought.
WHOA- this was TOUGH for me- I spent a long, long time figuring it all out. I actually had created two "HTMLwork" folders and I suspect that at the end here I accidentally loaded...or whatever the correct term is...the incorrect one. The one I had wanted to load was better than my first attempt. At any rate, I feel happy just to have made it this far!
Well, that was fun. Had some trouble getting the code validated. Made many revisions to the code but finally got it done!
Patty
This will be start of my jewelry business and
also to showcase my work and possibly my friend's
work.
I could not get my page to pass the validation. I did not think it was that diffiucult to create - but guess I am missing something..
I really enjoyed learning to create this page.
I enjoyed doing this assignment. The Head First HTML book is great! Looking forward to the next lesson.
Thank you.
Deborah
I had a little trouble with the validation portion but passed eventually.
Looking forward to adding all the bells and whistles.
I enjoyed putting the site up live. I already want to learn how to build the site with images but i know we will get there soon enough.
After I corrected the code to get it verified I was happily satisfied. This is fun and taxing on the creative side of my brain.
It was made easier by the cd movies we watched. Also being able to download the code helped a lot. I am understanding it much better then the first attempt I made at this class. Yahoo!
easier than I thought it would be!
Perhaps this page will become more interesting soon.
Fun to be publishing to the web even if it's only on student server, and even though it's a primitive home page. Makes me want to learn all the fancy web design colors, graphics, rollovers, links and other tricks.
My page didn't validate at first, but with a closer eye I was able to make the necessary corrections and receive the required validation. I am having so much fun!
I am having fun.... I had a slight problem in getting my page validated at first. I was real happy once I got the "Congratulation" green pass results :-) This is great!!

Sorry I am so late and my site is so simple. It was still a big challenge for me-luckily my sister helped me.
Cheers!

Sorry I had not ready the instructions carefully enough and did not see this part of the assignment. I had only uploaded the folder and left it as that. When I read your email about summiting work I realized what I had not done.
On another note I have been having problems having images show up on the web server, I have even tried hosting them on another server and using the tag its still does not show? Any ideas? Am I merely overlooking something small? -Thanks
Daniel Butler.
I've made my home page which is exciting but I'm still struggling with the 'code' or getting it 'valid' if that's the correct term.
Cool to see my webpage up and running!
Took a few minutes to figure out the validation error, but otherwise a painless start.
At first everything went nice and smooth...then came the validation part ahhhh that was a nightmare!!! Finally I figured it out.
Now I can't wait to get some color and fun stuff on my page.
Took a surprisingly long time to get validation right - I had to add "" to finally get it to validate properly.
I decided to create my website on something that I love, which is astronomy. I started to build the site with the intention to have information on all the planets and the Sun.
The validator added an attribute to the tag as well as a brand new tag. Why?
I did the basic one, then realized I had two hours before my next class and so I went a little overboard... eheh. =D;
This assignment was very fun and im looking forward to the next one.
once again i think of things as way to complicated for me to do when in actuality thay are much simpler
Everything went smooth until the validation part. I felt like I had a really good understanding of the process and thought that I was going to fly through the validation process. No such luck. I'm not having any luck figuring out why either. Other than that, I am actually enjoying the information I'm learning and am looking forward to the rest of the course material.
When I submitted my page for validation using the code sample from the CD (see below), I received an error:
Error Message:
Line 5, Column 1: Missing xmlns attribute for element html. The value should be: http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml.
So, I changed my DOCTYPE code to the following (see below) and it passed validation:
So, as long as it passes validation, we're okay...even though it doesn't match your CD sample?
Thanks,
Annette
When following the directions, I could not get my page to validate. It mentioned that I needed an additional statement within the html tag. When I added that, it validated.
I thought this was a fun first assignment and I'm looking forward to learning how to build a great website.
Although I could not get it to validate properly when running through the validator website, it still seems to show up properly in the web browser.
I found this assignment very hard and I didn't complete it successfully. At first, I followed the directions in the book. Then I went through the instructions in the online lesson 2 and watched the movies. The instructions online were different from the instructions in the book so I don't know if my site was created correctly. But I was unable to get my site connected the the SRJC server. It wouldn't accept my password and there was no way to find out why. So I'm stuck.
Was unable to validate but page displays on browser.
This assignment went pretty well and I can't wait to add more to my page.
I tried to add the CSS code from the book but then my web browser would not load the page. I'll try again on the next page.
I love the textbook! It makes things very simple to understand.
It's satisfying to pass validation and amazing how many errors can exist in the code but still have the site display [apparently] properly. At least now it displays and is valid. :)
The coding was relatively easy. The book is very easy to follow and I had no trouble understanding the HTML tags. The CSS code almost tripped me up until I found I had overlooked the ";" at the end of each line. Once I figured that out, it was no problem.
I am still not comfortable with the process of uploading to the student website and am not sure if both the index page and the mission page can be seen from the instructor side. If I still need to correct that, please let me know. I have a main folder called Starbuzz with both files inside.
I'm sure that after I have done this a few more times I'll feel more secure about the process.
