Thanks for your help today. I worked in Safari, which is my most trusted browser, so I hope that it works alright. I was sure to check that the http:// URL was visible in the address bar whenever I went to the web pages and when I checked the relative links. The required number of relative, absolute, and destination links should all be there, especially on the home page. The email link is now there. I could not get all of the pages to validate. I did what I could to correct what was indicated, but the references to errors in the beginning and ending code related to xhtml language were beyond my pay grade. I hope you are able to correct my grade for the submission of the home page since everything was actually ready to go but I erroneously thought that it was visible on the web. Christopher McRee

I boned up with a few tutorials that demonstrated some "fancier" formatting. But as I discovered, the formatting was not allowed in the "Strict version of html 1.0. I really wanted to open up my links in a "new window" but the code I was using doesn't validate. I am anxious to "trick up" this site with pictures and more formatting options - so I can hardly wait for the future lessons. The navigation bar at the top of the home page has relative links to four other pages (on the four pages there are five relative links in the navigation bar including the "home" page link). On the "links" page, I have three absolute links to pages on the web. On the "home" page, I have two destination links (jump links, hope I'm getting the terminology right); the first one is immediately under the main heading, and jumps to the bottom of the page; the second one is at the bottom of the page, and jumps back to the top. The email link is on the contact page. The pictures on the Serigraphs page are poor copies, but I hope you enjoy them! Mark

In addition to the Home page, I added 4 pages to the site: --Egypt --Nile River --Mediterranean --Contact I added the Navigation bar at the top and I also put it on the bottom of all the pages(in the event that my pages get long). ---The Links--- Relative links: ------------------------ --Home (index) page - "Nile River" links to Nile River page. --Contact page - "innundate" links to Nile River page and a description of the Nile River innundation. Absolute links: ------------------------ --Home (index) page - "Lake Tangyanika" links to a Wikipedia article about the lake. --Nile River page - "visit an interactive map of the Nile River" links to a PBS website about Ancient Egypt. Destination links: ------------------------ --Nile River page - as this page grew to be quite long I placed two "return to top" links on the page, one midway and one at the bottom. I placed the anchor id for the top of the page on the H1 header. Additionally, I added a class .right in the section of the html to get these links to float to the right of the page. E-mail link: ------------------------- --Contact page - "Send me an e-mail." With the exception of the Nile River page, all of my pages validated. I had to correct 11 errors on the Nile River page having to do with the ordered and unordered list as well as the way I tried to align the "return to top" originally in my code. I tried to nest the unordered list within the ordered list, but got validation errors so I changed the layout of the page to as it appears now. My ordered and unordered lists appear on the Nile River page only. I checked all my links on all pages and they were unbroken. I think that's it! Have a great week everyone! Deborah

This was a very challenging assignment for me. The first time I validated my home page, and saw 56 errors, I nearly shut down my computer once and for all. Tenacity took over, and I worked through each page, correcting and reworking many dumb errors. The exercise of going back through each page, taught me more, and helped me understand the essence of what we are learning. Needless to say, all of may pages started out with many many errors, but I am happy to say that I got full validation on all pages. I do hope this gets easier for me.... Thanks, Jodie

This project was more challenging. It was hard for me to get the links to working properly from page to page. The validator was a little taxing…but I was sure happy when I got the green pass :-) . Relative Links: 1. Navigation bar at the top of each page; 2. On “Home” page Sections: “Facts”, ”Photos”, “Links” “Contact Information”; 3. Also on “Home” page “please contact me and include your link….”. Absolute Links: 1. On “Links” page, several web sites outside my site. Destination Links: 1. “Return to top”….at the bottom of each page, goes to the top of page; 2. On “Links” page, each of the ordered items goes to a hot spot on the page. Email Links: 1. On “Contact” page. Ordered List: 1.On “Links” page. Unordered List: 1.On “Links” page.

This assignment was challenging, getting all the links to work properly in cycles. But satisfying once it all came together. Even more fun was when all the pages finally checked out with that tough taskmaster: the validator. Relative links are obviously in the navigation bar, which should get you back and forth from home page to all other pages, allowing free navigation throughout the site. There are absolute links in the links page, as well as several destination or jump links. And there is an email link on the links page as well as on the contact page. How does one create a contact email link without risking spam, using verification? (see this contact page for example): http://mrossart.com/contact

I found parts of this assignment very exciting, and parts very frustrating. The reading did not match some of the requirements that were asked for. The navigation bar did not appear in any of the projects in the book that I could find. I was able to find information about navigation bars online and figured out how to build one on my own, which I felt pretty good about. I created a navigation bar across the top of each page, and included an email link there. A couple of my pages had their own navigation bar below the heading. On the journal example I built jump links and placed them in a navigation bar, as well as ordered and unordered lists. With the ordered list I also created links to web sites for each list item. Part of the reading showed how to build organization and file structure. This worked fine on my computer, but when I transferred it to the SRJC server, none of the page links worked. I revised the file structure and adjusted paths to all of the links to make it all work on the SRJC server. This was the part that was very frustrating to me. If I can make it work in a structured file system on my computer, and transfer it exactly as I have it, why does it not work after transfer?

Nav bar on all pages contain relative links. 'factoids' page contains: absolute links destination links There is a 'contact' page that contains an email link. There are ordered and unordered lists on the 'factoids' page, 'Inner Planets', Outer Planets' I put a definition list on 'links and references' page. POINT OF INTEREST: In order to validate a page with a nested list, you must put AFTER the nested list. In other words, a nested list be contained inside your

  • element.

Everything went very smoothly! Email link is located on the "Donations and Contact Info" page, off-site links are located on the "Server Info" page, and jump links are located on the main page.

Linda- Email link is in the index (home) page. Jump link found in the "about" page as well as one destination link. Other links to outside webpages found on the links page. I finally got the page to validate - so I hope it works when you try it as well this time. Thanks, Stacey

Most links are located in the navigation bar, including the contact e-mail link. I also have a links page with WWW sites. There is a jump link on the familyofeicosanoids.html at "Aspirin, an anti-inflammatory, with fish oil" that takes you down the page. There is another jump link in index.html at the words "the world inside" that takes you down to that section. Links between pages also occur at the bottom of each page.

Relative links are on each page (in the navigation and body text); absolute links are on the News & Events page; destination links are on the Custom Culinary, Professional Services and Wine Education pages, email links are on the Home and Contact pages; unordered lists are on the Custom Culinary, Professional Services and Wine Education pages; ordered list is on the Recipes page. Note: I wasn't sure where to put the reference on my pages. I put it as the first thing in the section after a

tag. I didn't put any text between the tags because I didn't want anything to appear on the page. Is this the best way to handle the "To Top" link?

The e-mail link is at the bottom of the page where it is highlighted...J_mcgill2002@yahoo.com. The links to the www sites are towards the bottom of the page, and they are Amazon and Shopzilla. Some of the jump links are located at the top of the page under h1 and in the first paragraph they are....Action, Thriller/Horror, and Comedy. Also there are links on the navigation bar that will take you to seperate pages of the website. Also, since i uploaded my new index.html, then for my first assignment that i only got 2 points for the new index took place of the old index and i wanted to know that since you can see that i did the assignment for lesson 2 will i get credit for that also. This lesson was pretty easy. I got it down and had it finished in a couple of hours. I enjoyed doing this lesson a lot and it was a lot of fun.
