We had a nice surprise when, after 28 years, Eike, a foreign exchange student staying with our family in Albuquerque, made contact with us. Because he had married and added his wife's name the results of our searches were empty. Here Debbie and Eike enjoy a barbecue at our home. |
| Andrew and Lorenz work together putting an awning up for our barbecue. We had never met Lorenz and it was quite surprising how close he looks like his dad did back then. | ![]() |

The Independance Day barbecue was highlighted by a red, white, and blue cake made by Debbie's mom. |
| We toured San Francisco. Lorenz had been to California recently as he and a group of school students had won the trip during an engineering competition. | ![]() |
| Eike met Jazzlyn and her bird while we visited Julie over dinner. Eike told us he and his wife are both retired from their veterinary practice and decided to buy a farm. The government of the now unified Germany was looking for people to bring money and jobs to the east. They sold to Eike at a very good price. | ![]() |

We picnicked in the redwoods. Eike told us the country side surrounding their farm is very flat. One side of his property is bordered by the North Sea. He tells us the property once was a commune. There are many barns and out buildings. They have turned some of the buildings into living quarters for his workers and their families, and some into barns for the animals. He raises organic cattle and pigs for slaughter. |
| Jettus treated us to some of his catch when he went salmon fishing in Alaska with his father. He brought back plenty of salmon; most of it raw and some of it smoked. There was plenty to eat and some to take home. | ![]() |
