SAN JOSE REGIONAL SILVERSTICK TOURNAMENT 2009

Santa Rosa Flyers 3 - San Jose Junior Sharks II 1 Saturday, November 28 (San Jose South): We outplayed the San Jose Junior Sharks number 2 team, outshot them 23-20 and outscored the 3-1. Everyone was back (except Jonathan in New York and Clay with his broken collarbone). We opened the scoring just before the end of the first period on a goal by Kevin Parry from Alex Kotval and Peter Strauch. We increased the lead to 2-0 with 5 minutes remaining in the second on a goal from Peter Strauch from Sean Patrick Kelley and Kevin Parry. Orange County came back fairly early in the third to make the score a close 2-1. With 25 seconds remaining in the game, Marc Chicoine blocked a pass and Strauch fed it to Michael Williams who took the puck close enough to put it in the Shark's open net to seal the deal.

Portland Junior Hawks 12- Santa Rosa Flyers 0 Friday, November
27 (San Jose Center): Man, what a team. Portland scored 3 in the
first, 6 in the second and 3 in the third. We had only one penalty and
they had 2. A clean fast game. We were schooled by an excellent team.
The Portand Junior Hawks won the regional, national and international
Silverstick last year. |
Santa Rosa Flyers 4 - Orange County HC 4 Friday, November 27 (San Jose South): This game, we were down to 7 forwards and 4 defense with Gruber, McCormick and Strauch missing. But we put together a much more spirited and disciplined game, getting on the puck and putting some good plays together. We opened the scoring in the first 10 seconds on a goal by Max Brownlee, assisted by Kevin Parry and Marc Chicoine. Three minutes later rookie Michael Williams scored his second goal of the season fed by Niklis Nisja on a pass from behind the net by Evan Hastings. In the second period Orange County narrowed the gap to 2-1 but before the end of the second we had regained out 2-goal lead on a goal by Kevin Parry from Max Brownlee and Connor Smith. In the third, Orange County came back with 2 goals to tie the game at 3-3. Things were still looking good 30 seconds later when we regained the lead on a goal from Conner Smith, assisted by James Blount. But, alas, we couldn't hold it as OC tied the game. OC outshot us 23-19. Marc Chicoine received a Game Misconduct for 3rd man in when he came to Jame Blount's aid.

San Diego Saints 3 - Santa Rosa Flyers 1 Thursday, November 26 (San Jose South): We weren't as sharp as we could have been. We clearly had the skills to beat this team but couldn't put it together and the Saints took advantage of it. We were missing Jonathan Gruber (on a family vacation) and Clay McCormick (broken collarbone). We lost Peter Strauch in the second period to a Game Misconduct for an obscene jesture directed at an opposing player. The game was scoreless until near the end of the first period when up 1-0. Four minutes into the 2nd they added another one to end that period with a 2-0 lead. Three minutes into the 3rd we made a game of it on a great point shot by Andy Kotval assisted by Marc Chicoine. But San Diego managed to get their 2-goal lead back on a goal with 3 minutes remaining. Sean Fitzpatrick stopped 39 of 42 shots on goal, while we managed 24 shots.
