The Realistic Orchestra Continuing the local tradition of live jazz explorations, 20 of the Bay Areašs finest Jazz and improvisational musicians will crowd the stage at Brunošs for a one-time performance on February 25th. The result will be a ground-breaking sound of the Realistic Orchestra--a live mix of the traditional Big Band instrumentation with live use of electronics, sampling, and all original compositions covering drum and bass, dub, and breakbeat to name a few. All of the well-accomplished Bay Area performers will be featured as soloists at different times. The Quintet core of the Orchestra, Realistic has been a dynamic force in the rapidly evolving jazz-electronica scene leading to the recent openings for Charlie Hunter and Brad Mehldau. Realistic is perhaps best known for their use of live loops and sampling, but never before has anyone applied the modern electronics to a live orchestra. Their growing word-of-mouth reputation has been drawing a steady following to the local venues for the past three years. As doors of small clubs are closing and big venues are focusing on national acts, the leader of Realistic Adam Theis resiliently continues his long-standing tradition of encouraging local, often underrated talent at quintetšs live performances. In spite of the somber mood around town, the Realistic Orchestra will be a promise of the continued growth of the Bay Areašs creative and unique jazz vibes. ![]() |
