Little Norman and the Normans

The following relates to a rule change for version 3.0. Before then, it was generally accepted that mounted elements on a flank march with dismounting capabilities could choose to arrive mounted or dismounted on an individual element basis. This has been changed with version 3.0 to prohibit mounted elements from arriving dismounted.

So, RBS replied to my flank marching proposal and essentially says "historical evidence, please." Silly me, I must have overlooked all that cogent historical evidence cited in the proposed amendments pertaining to this rule. Instead, I attempted to resort to, uh, logic. You know, something along the lines of...

[William the Conqueror
from the Bauyeux Tapestry]

There be these Normans.

They be real tough dudes.

Real fine horsemen, too.

But their egos, they not be tied to fighting on horseback.

If fighting on horsback be foolish, they'd fight on foot.

So one day, they be invaded by pachyderms.

And the Normans, they sez...

"We could fight mounted, and we'd be toast."

"Or we could fight on foot, and waste those dudes."

Then little Norman, he pipes up...

"Let's flank march those dudes and really waste them!"

And all the big Normans, they sez...

"Fool!"

"We'd have to flank march mounted, and we'd be wasted!"

And little Norman, he sez...

"I have a brilliant idea, let's march on foot like foot soldiers do."

And the big Normans, they sez...

"Fool!"

"There be no historical evidence for flank-marching dismounted against pachyderms!"

And little Norman, he sez...

"Well, there be no historical evidence for flank marching mounted against pachyderms either, be there?"

Then the big Normans, they wasted little Norman since he be such a fool.

Not to mention, he be a big pain in the butt as well.
