To Whom It May Concern:

River Mortenson has been an outstanding student in several web design courses at Santa Rosa Junior College. River has completed the Web Graphics class and will soon be issued his certification in Web Design.

River approaches web design as an artist, he has an excellent sense of color, line and design, yet he is equally concerned with mastering the technical aspects of web design by probing the limits of HTML. Artistic ability and technical expertise are supplemented by a perfectionist standard. River is not satisfied until all the details are just right.

His willingness to work hard and take on new challenges make him a delight to work with, enthusiasm and curiosity will motivate him to constantly keep learning and growing. River is an excellent candidate for a web designer position.

If you have further question please contact me at (707) 527-4855.

Sincerely Yours

Linda Hemenway

Recommendation:

I highly recommend River Mortenson for employment with your firm. I have known River for about 8 years. As production manager at Mariner Graphics, I hired River for a new and challenging position in the company . I had the pleasure of supervising River for about 3 years until I left the company.

RIver definitely rose to the occasion and consistently produced quality work on a timely basis under difficult circumstances. Additionally River became quite involved with working one on one with many of our clients. This proved to be quite an asset to the company.

River has a good way with people and was involved with training others. River works well with others and takes direction well. River is also very creative and innovative. He takes the initiative to learn and grow and add value by making practical application of his knowledge.

What I appreciated most about working with River is that he is a man of integrity and always showed respect to all.

Interests

Art

Probably the art that impressed me most when I was a teenager was a Jackson Pollock painting in the local art museum, The Albright Knox. I finally began to paint in earnest in college but mistakenly believed that I'd starve to death as an artist. (I'd probably be rich by now instead of staying up late creating this web page.)

Photography

I've had an interest in photography for many years. My grandfather started photographing around the turn of the last century. His closets were filled with family albums and ancient photography annuals. But it was only as an adult that I learned the alchemy of seeing an image come to life in a darkroom pan and the magic in just the right shot.

Rhythm and Blues

When I was a kid, I liked rhythm and blues from Chuck Berry to Motown. Jazz had it too: Coltrane, Mingus and Ornette. Over the years I had an extensive collection of records which I finally gave up lugging around. I'm gradually converting over to CD, covering the spectrum from Louis Armstrong, through swing and jump, into soul and funk, and all the way up to Hip-Hop.

Writing

The project I have spent a decade on is called "Earth". I know this sounds a little preposterous but the story goes that an adolescent girl from another planet comes to earth as a part of an student exchange program, falls in love with earth and is reluctant to go home. The story is told in short vignettes, poems and prose poems and is illustrated with drawings that have been modified in Photoshop.
