Playing Hooky, Investigating Storm Damage

January 1998 was very rainy. February was continuously rainy. Sometime in February the Bikeaholics were bouncing off the walls upon hearing a forecast of yet another rain soaked weekend.

What to do? Roller rides were proposed, but not a single roller virgin was willing to give them a shot. Finally, it was decided to play hooky on Friday, which had the least bleak forecast.

The main group went to the coast and played in the mud and felled trees which had closed several roads.

Stella Hackell and I weren't able to start early enough for such an ambitious ride, so we went off in search of local short and steep roads. We did Summit Springs and Patrol roads. Then we took a lunch break at the Kings Mountain Country Store.

On our way to Bunker Hill, we made a side trip to check out Crystal Springs Road, which was reported closed due to flooding. We were skeptical as to how flooded it could be. Hoo Boy! They weren't kidding.

We consoled ourselves climbing Bunker Hill, then we made our way to Club Drive and descended Crestview. It was now getting late, so we weren't able to visit the amazing power pole spring on Canada Road.
