Who is Kate Vander Sluis? Educator
I have taught preschool through intermediate grades, designing curriculum for students ages 2-13. In 1996, I helped create the Learning Through Play Nursery School, which inspired my book,
Preschool Your Kids. I continue to work and teach in classrooms (grades pre-K to 6th), and have started a library at my children's school where I serve as librarian. My goal is to engage
the child's imagination and intellect on many levels. One of my favorite things to do is to bring literature to life: I commit a poem or story to memory
and then perform it in character for students. Enthusiasm is contagious! Contact me

strategies, the nature of teaching and learning, and activities/resources to enrich children and families. I have addressed such organizations as
Mothers of Pre-Schoolers, the Northern California Association of Mothers of Twins Clubs, Redwood Empire Parents of Multiples, State Farm Insurance Employees, and other parent and church organizations. See a
list of speaking topics or contact me about speaking for your organization or event.Author
I am the author of Preschool Your Kids, and co-author of the guidebook Everyday Favorites of Sonoma County. I've written a multitude of
non-fiction articles for a variety of publications such as The Parent's Journal and Twins magazine. I have enjoyed writing across the genre
from humor to poetry to personal essays, and occasionally sink my teeth into in-depth research, such as the Special Report I worked on for Twins magazine entitled Multiples in School
. For a more comprehensive look at the body of my work, click Published Work.Reviewer The market of books and other media for families is burgeoning— outstanding selections right along with garbage, because both will sell.
Overwhelmed by the sheer volume of titles, parents who take the time to look find themselves wading in a mire of mediocrity. Take heart! There is
a wealth of superior material out there. I critique parenting books, children's literature, audio/video productions, and more, winnowing for the most premium kernels. For suggested selections, click Reviews.Parent In 1992, my husband and I were privileged to become parents of
identical twin boys. Parenthood has enriched our lives in every dimension. We've been awestruck by the wonders of twinship and initiated into the novelty of identicals. We've learned that raising
children is never dull, and a sense of humor certainly helps! Mostly, we have discovered that, for all we hope to instill in our children, we have learned infinitely more through the blessing of parenting.
