About Us

In 1993, I began to experiment with silk dyeing to make playsilks for our oldest son, Josh, then 4 years old, who loved to dress-up. His favorite characters changed daily so I wanted some kind of cloth that could easily be transformed into Peter Pan, Robin Hood, a butterfly, a dog, a turtle, an old man or whatever the day brought. The colors on silk were so vibrant we were both entranced.

When friends commented on the beauty and versatility of the silks, I thought about selling them to be a stay-at-home mom. The first store I approached, Young at Heart, in Santa Rosa, CA, was very excited to buy a basket of silks. From there it was a matter of finding more like-minded store owners. We now sell to over 700 stores, catalogs and web sites around the world. Lately, I've enjoyed imagining the silks being used in Iceland with those long winter nights and plenty of time for dress-up!

As business grew, my husband, Mike pitched in to help. And along the way, our next 2 sons, Noah and Morgan were born. Before long, our converted garage/workshop was soon filled to the brim with boxes and boxes of silks and trims.

Just as in ancient times, all our silk comes from China and some of our products are now made there too. Our playsilks are hemmed in a town where women sit in their doorsteps - chatting and sewing while children play on the sidewalk and run in and out of their homes. The sewing provides supplementary income so that they can remain at home and take care of their children. Mike and Josh have visited and enjoyed getting to know the workers.

Thank you to all of our loyal customers over the years. We appreciate your business and support. We love to hear you comments and suggestions.
