TODAY & TOMORROW PLUS SOME REALLY NEAT
WEBSITES! Generally I try to provide information in these articles that
will be helpful to you, but everyone once in a while, it's refreshing to go in
a different direction, which is what you'll find below.
When I was a
kid, Dick Tracy was one of the premier comic strips in the funny papers. There
was also the Dick Tracy radio show and more recently, the Dick Tracy movie,
which I guess, turned out to be a big flop! For those of you too young to
remember, he was a private detective who wore a wristwatch that allowed him to
communicate with his headquarters. Of course, I can remember thinking how cool
it would be to have one of these! Well, as early as next year, we might all be
able to have one.
Today, everything is going wireless and broadband (a
term that refers to a network's ability to transmit data at high speeds and/or
to transmit millions of data bits over a single line at the same time without
experiencing any slowdown or loss of quality).
I just bought a
wireless Omnisky modem for my Palm V PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). Now, I
can access the Internet and my email from virtually anywhere in the United
States. For you business travelers, this is very cool. Instead of wasting time
sitting in an airport, you can now send and receive your email while relaxing
in the sports bar catching a baseball or football game. You can check your
stocks and even send and receive faxes (using efax.com). Recently I got stuck
on an airplane for 3 hours while we waited for a thunderstorm to roll through,
so I pulled out my Palm and emailed my wife to let her know that I'd be home
late. (If you don't already own a Palm Pilot, take a look at the new Palm VII
that has a wireless modem already built-in!)
Getting back to Dick
Tracy, at least three companies - Swatch, Motorola and Samsung - are developing
cellphone watches. Samsung's is already available, but only in Korea, while the
other two are still in the concept stage. All three are expected to arrive in
the U.S. late next year. While talk time will be shorter than most cellphones,
expect to get between 1 to 2 hours, with a standby time of about a day.
The Internet's Best Science and Technology Websites
Following
is a list of some of the Internet's best science and technology sites. They not
only provide a wealth of information, but they enliven your experience with
interactive games, video clips, and animations. Some even employ broadband (DSL
- Digital Subscriber Line - or Cable Modem) specific content.
Exploring all of the above sites could
easily keep you busy for months. There's something there for everyone, so start
checking them out now.
Remember, we at

business and our friendly, knowledgeable account representatives are eager to
help you find even the most unusual of items! If we can't find it, it's
probably hasn't been made yet!
