About
the Photographer: “I grew up in Ireland and I
was fortunate after I left school to work with a highly
respected German cameraman, Gunter Wolff, at Ardmore
Studios in Dublin. He was a consummate perfectionist.
Over the course of five years he taught me the art of
live action, animation and still photography, skills
that were the bedrock of my career.
I moved to Australia in the seventies and worked for ABC
Australia as a documentary cameraman. I came to
the US in 1977 and joined the American Cinematographers
Guild whom I have been with for 30 years working on
feature films & TV shows as a cameraman at all the major
studios including Disney, Warner Brothers, Fox &
Universal Studios. In order to Sharpen my vision, I took
courses in still photography at UCLA Focusing on
portraiture and landscape.
Still photography has always been my passion. Instead of
a Panavision camera rolling at 24 frames per second, it
is 1 frame at approximately 1/30 of a second, and the
challenge is to record nature and it’s wonders. I
am an avid outdoor guy. I love to travel the world
and take trips in the US, fulfilling dreams of my Irish
youth. These images are some of the many I have taken
along the way. I do all my own darkroom work, which is
imperative to the quality of the image. I take great
pleasure in the creative process from the initial image
to the final print. I hope you enjoy these images as
much as I have enjoyed creating them”. |
