About This Site

NetTravel.com has three goals: to catalog the latest travel web sites, to update the print volume of Internet Travel Planner, and to showcase some of Michael Shapiro's travel writing.

Unlike some directories, NetTravel has no partners or sponsors who can dictate what sites are featured. It's modeled on an early directory called Global Network Navigator, which highlighted a manageable selection of the best sites. NetTravel.com is even more selective: just some of the best sites are mentioned here. You'll find more in Michael Shapiro's Internet Travel Planner.

As the companion to the book Internet Travel Planner, this site will post updates about relevant travel trends, and list valuable travel sites introduced after the book is published. One thing you won't find here are site listings for destinations - these are listed in the book.

You'll also find some of Shapiro's recent travel writing, a selection of tech-related and destination stories, ranging from his TravelTech column for the San Francisco Chronicle to a story about biking in Cuba that was published in the Washington Post.
