The Instructional Support Team (IST) of the United States Coast Guard Training Center, Petaluma, facilitates and enhances all technological implementation within the training sphere.

As Lead Programming Developer of the IST, my duties as an Instructional Media Designer include design of CD-ROM training modules & Web-Based Training (WBT) site interfaces, structure, navigation, graphics and animation; Web Accessibility Guidelines documentation, clarification, implementation and support; graphic design consultation and assistance; programming, scripting, code troubleshooting and digital video editing. I use Photoshop, Flash, Flash SAP, XML, Dreamweaver, Director, Premiere, Contribute, Convoq ASAP and VBScript and ASP.

PBHS, Inc. creates sites primarily for oral & maxillofacial surgeons, endodontists, periodontists, orthodontists and other specialized dental and medical professionals. Sites incorporate personalized design and motifs with templated procedural and services information. Individual design concepts are a combination of client collaboration, user input and designer creativity.

As Web Designer, I was solely responsible for the initial client consultation, mockups, online design proof, site structure, navigation, graphics, proofreading, editing, and uploading to the client domain. I used Photoshop, Image Ready, Illustrator and GoLive to create web sites.

As Project Manager, I was also responsible for the maintenance, modification and troubleshooting of all online health history and referral forms, registration and tracking of client domains, creation of email accounts, metatagging and submitting sites to search engines and directories, and obtaining and organizing client content and materials. I used ACT!, VSE Be Found, Excel, Filemaker, and some Cold Fusion for these duties.

I received my art education and degree at UC Davis, where I studied oil painting with Wayne Thiebaud and Cornielia Schultz, and photography with Harvey Himelfarb. As a practicing visual artist I continue to refine my craft and explore these traditional media. Digital image enhancement offers tremendous creative potential and flexibility, and I enjoy a constructive balance between the traditional and contemporary media.
