For students who wonder whether they will be able to enroll in EALC 109 for the Fall 2010.

The student limit on this class is not entirely clear at this point (April 14, 2010). The enrollment limit currently displayed on the timetable may not be an accurate reflection of the upper limit for the class. I encourage you to go ahead and get on the waitlist and see what happens. If the waitlist is also full, please email me. Please include "enrollmentissue" (as one word) in your email subject line. That will help me search for and line up these discussions in the fall, when they become most relevant.

I attempt to resolve enrollment issues very quickly; however, it can still be up to 2 weeks until everything is in place. But I will give an early sense of where we are on enrollments after the fist two sessions.

In order to give the department room to manage the list, it blocks a large number of students from enrolling in the initial stages of registration. This is an automatic process and does not suggest that you are not qualified for the class or are "low on the list" for enrollment. If you are interested in the class, you should join the waitlist and, if the waitlist is full, come to the first class anyway.

After classes begin, I will be manually moving students off the waitlist into enrollment. I will enroll students from the waitlist with the below things in mind (in addition to the conditions mentioned in the overview on the other web page), more or less with priorities as indicated:

There are other considerations besides those above that are part of the mix and can't really be prioritized as accurately. Your rank on the waitlist is usually not a very important piece of data, but it does come into play at times.
