Dear Friend of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project,

As the UDP moves into its 11th official year of providing education and supplies to the diabetic children in Ukraine, we hope you take great satisfaction in your generous support for our efforts over the year (years for many of you) and what it has allowed us to accomplish. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress as we achieve new milestones:

  • New to our outreach in 2003 includes the region of Chernihiv. We have reached children in eight regions of Ukraine including Cherkasy, Poltava, Binnitsa, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Crimea Republic, Kiyiv and now Chernihiv. To date, over 2000 diabetic children have been provided with education and diabetic supplies.

  • In June, the UDP team traveled to Kiyiv to inspect a medical shipment donated to OXMADIT Children’s Hospital in Kiyiv through Mission Relief Services and Counterpart International. We are grateful to these two organizations in their efforts to help us assist children in need in Ukraine.

  • UDP provided a presentation to the Kiyiv Rotary members to explore their potential to “adopt” the Diabetes Charity Fund of Kiyiv’s diabetes summer camp. Members of the Santa Rosa-West Rotary have taken the lead in championing this effort. UDP will continue to collaborate with the Santa Rosa-West Rotary in developing a closer relationship with the local Kiyiv Rotary in order to obtain their firm commitment to providing assistance to diabetic children in their region.

  • UDP purchased and provided the desperately needed blood glucose strips for the diabetic children to use to manage their blood sugar while at camp.

  • UDP shipped another 500 Ukrainian diabetes manuals to Kiyiv and Chernihiv. These manuals will be made available at no charge to the diabetic children in these areas.

Again, please accept our heartfelt thanks for all that you do to help us. Your contributions are what make our efforts possible. If you have not had the opportunity to make a contribution this year, we are enclosing an envelope for you to do so. We are deeply grateful for your continued interest in our diabetic children and for your generous response to their needs.
