Dear Friend of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project,

The Ukrainian Diabetes Project began its work in Ukraine nearly 20 years ago. To date we have provided for nearly 3050 children with diabetes. There has been a good deal of improvement over the years in terms of diabetes programs in Ukraine that I would like to think the efforts of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project have played a part. Your annual contribution has made a big impact on the diabetic children in Ukraine.

The UDP shipped diabetes supplies for 200 children in Kyiv and 100 children in Kherson in May 2010. The supplies and shipment cost $61,650.00. The supplies included blood testing strips for managing control of daily blood sugar levels, blood testing meters/kits, and low dose syringes that are especially needed by the younger children. As usual, we obtained our supplies at charity rate prices to keep the cost to a minimum. Our affiliates in Kyiv and Kherson continue to distribute the supplies. We have rescheduled our 2010 visit to Ukraine to summer of 2011 to assess our program and determine any other needs that are necessary. We hope to set up a teaching clinic with the physicians, nurses and diabetes educators while we are present.

The UDP is committed to continue providing supplies and educational services to these children. We have started the process of reprinting the Ukrainian version of a well known diabetes manual written by Dr. Luther Travis titled “An Instructional Aid on Diabetes Mellitus”. We have printed it twice in the past and Ukraine is now in need of additional copies. Fifteen hundred copies will be printed and distributed to the children at no cost to them. The expense to UDP will be approximately $7500.00 to print 1500 copies.

We will continue to look for other regions in need that have an infrastructure in place to work with in receiving supplies and distributing them to the diabetic children in their area. We depend on your financial assistance to continue our efforts. We thank you in advance if you have already sent your contribution. If not, we have enclosed an envelope for your convenience.
