Dear Friend of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project,

We thank you for your on-going support during these trying times in Ukraine. While Ukraine continues to fight for its territory many people are being displaced to other parts of the country. This includes diabetic Ukrainians living in the eastern part of Ukraine leaving for Kyiv and other areas that are not actively under attack. From what we have heard, many of these unfortunate individuals are unable to take their belongings with them and so leave their homes nearly empty handed – this of course includes leaving behind their means of controlling their diabetes. Moving to a new area they look for assistance programs, such as our affiliates, to provide them with diabetes needs. And so as a result of this, we have received a special request to provide extra assistance. The UDP has chosen to provide diabetes supplies for these additional needs. We hope to be able to provide all with hope and encouragement as they fight for a brighter future. It is especially crucial at this time to continue our prayers and let them know the UDP will continue its efforts as long as we can depend on you.

As we write, we are waiting momentarily for approval from customs to get this special request shipment through to our affiliates in Kyiv, the Diabetes Charity Fund. Diabetes supplies of blood glucose meter kits and blood glucose strips are awaiting shipment.

The supplies shipped in March 2014 were distributed. Moving forward the plans are to ship diabetes supplies early next year, for two hundred fifty children in Kyiv and one hundred fifty children in Kherson. The cost of these supplies and their shipment is estimated at $104,000. The Diabetes Charity Fund of Kyiv and the Kherson Diabetes Organization will distribute the supplies going to the children. We still hope that both regions will be able to offer a diabetes camp for the local children/families with diabetes next summer as planned.

We count on your financial donations during this difficult time in Ukraine and we are most grateful for your support. We thank you in advance if you have already sent your contribution. If not, for your convenience we have enclosed an envelope for you to do so. As always, we truly appreciate your continued financial support.
