Ukrainian Diabetes Project

2015 Report
History How To Help History

Dear Friend of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project,

As reported in our Fall 2014 correspondence, the Ukrainian Diabetes Project continues to provide diabetes supplies and educational services to the children with diabetes. On December 11, 2014, diabetes medical supplies were shipped to Kyiv and Kherson regions. Four hundred children received these supplies, costing $104,000. We would like to share their gratitude to all the friends of the Ukrainian Diabetes Project who made this possible.

In regard to the special request to provide extra assistance during this time of crisis, the UDP has purchased insulin syringes, per the request of our affiliates to provide aid to those diabetics displaced due to war. These extra supplies cost $14,500.00. They are in their final stage of approval from Ukraine’s government and will be shipped when we are given the go ahead. Our wish is to provide the Ukrainian people with support, hope and encouragement.

The supplies shipped in March 2014 were distributed. Moving forward the plans are to ship diabetes supplies early next year, for one hundred fifty children in Kyiv and one hundred children in Kherson. The cost of these supplies and their shipment is estimated at $104,000. The Diabetes Charity Fund of Kyiv and the Kherson Diabetes Organization will distribute the supplies going to the children. We still hope that both regions will be able to offer a diabetes camp for the local children/families with diabetes next summer as planned.

Once the above shipment has been sent we will focus on our usual purchase of diabetes supplies for 2015 for both regions, Kyiv and Kherson. Once again our goal is to provide supplies for three hundred children. The estimated cost is $ 100,000.00 and will include blood glucose meters, lancing devices with lancets, insulin pen needles and insulin syringes. The Diabetes Charity Fund of Kyiv and the Kherson Diabetes Organization will distribute the supplies.

Unfortunately many difficulties continue in Ukraine. It was reported to UDP “… there was serious problems in Kyiv. We didn't get insulins for 2-3 months. And only today the procurement procedure has been held. On May 27th we had to organize a protest at Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.”

In July we received the following information, “….As for insulin problem - finally, imported insulins have become available today for people. Thank you for your support! We are trying to hold on.” We are proud to be affiliated with both groups for their steadfast efforts on behalf of the diabetic population in Ukraine.

Please visit our website at http://www.sonic.net/~udpandy/presentation.html. We count on your financial donations and we are most grateful for your support. We thank you in advance if you have already sent your contribution. If not, for your convenience we have enclosed an envelope for you to do so. As always, we will send a final report of our activities at the end of the year. We truly appreciate your continued financial support.
