a string ensemble performing at place de la sorbonne. [ 35 ] walking down boulevard saint michel in the chilly dusk we saw a ten piece string ensemble playing briskly across the street at place de la sorbonne. we crossed over to have a closer look. they were from eastern europe. their cd's were for sale on a small trunk. a small crowd was enjoying the performance. we watched for a bit, then ducked into the college bookstore on the corner. i was hoping to find some cool "la sorbonne" tshirt, but the chamber we entered was entirely books. it was very crowded. books were stacked everywhere, including window ledges. stairs went out of sight up and down to further chambers. customers were packed as tight as the books. we went back outside. passing the string ensemble we walked down to the cluny la sorbonne metro station at the corner of boulevard saint michel and boulevard saint germain. we rode line ten to the la motte-picquet interchange, where we switched to line eight and rode one stop to ecole militaire. it was early evening. light was fading fast. we went into the supermarche on avenue de la motte picquet and purchased supplies for dinner. we selected pasta and pasta sauce for dinner and grapefruit juice for breakfast. strolling down rue cler at the end of a long day one of the produce stands was still open. i bought some shelled nuts and fresh tomatoes. we had a pleasant dinner for our last night on rue duvivier.
