Mazatlan - City & Shopping Tour
The ship docks at the mazatlan shipyard and from that point we boarded a small tram taking us out of the shipyard. I don't know if we were lucky because while others
taking this tour were loading into buses the six of us and
another couple hopped into a Chevy Surburban for our Mazatlan
city tour. Our driver, Herberto, was very friendly, not only
taking us to the usual tourist spots, but areas a bus would
never get to. He was a retired phone company worker and
would often stop to chat with people he'd recognize while
driving. We felt like we were his friends in for a visit.
We were taken through Old Mazatlan, much of which
is now abandoned. This tour also stops at the downtown
cathedral, which can be seen from the ship, and at El Cid,
a community surrounding the golf course, and
the cliff divers, where for a few bucks one of the guys will
jump off for you. Our last stop was into the heart of the
Golden Zone to see the Aztec flyers show and then do some
shopping. We had time to stop at one small market near the
show which seemed to have more handcrafted items. I think
it was for this reason the bartering wasn't as good. We asked Herberto to drop us off at a downtown market then we took a pulmonia back to the ship ($5).
