Christmas Eve we're back at Great Grandma's house sharing a bowl of posole topped with Russ' homemade chili, empanadas, and cookies brought from the next door neighbor. Eating is done in shifts.  As one group finishes their meal the next group readies their appetite and takes an empty chair.
The process has no order to it other than when Great Grandma is ready to eat a space is made.  This year Russ made two varieties of chili, regular and elk.  This was the first year that Russ came back with an elk after a muzzle-loaded hunt.
Great Grandma's house on Christmas Eve is a gathering point for many members of the family and friends.  Throughout the evening people usually stop by to share food and family stories. This year was a little quiet but Sammy and Lucille from Los Lunas visited.
