I love music. I always have music playing no matter what I'm doing: reading, writing, on the phone, even in the shower. I have taken singing lessons, have been playing the drums for years, and have played in four separate bands. Okay, so maybe I'm obsessed with music.

The funny thing is that I wasn't always this obsessed with music. I generally didn't listen to a whole lot of music in the very early grades, until a friend of mine brought an Alanis Morrisette CD to the pool, and played it. I liked some of the sounds it had, and figured I ought to start looking into more music.

I'm currently in two bands, the pirmary of which is a garage band with a few of my friends. Josh Hogstrom, Nate Klug and I have a band that was known for years as ˘ommon ˘ents. We finally realized that we needed to change it once we discovered that there were about five other bands out there with the same name (and some even with the same spelling).

But then came the hard part: choosing a band name. It's not as easy as it sounds. You can easily come up with a funny one, or a casual one, but it's much more difficult to create and choose one that sounds good now, and will still sound good two years from now. We sat around for hours, just throwing out ideas and writing down the ones we liked the most. Some of the rejects but close calls were: This Side Up (already taken), Indecent Exposurem, Bald Bison, Second Draft, and Garden Supplies.

We still weren't sure what name we wanted when we were setting up for a gig (we played at our own Senior Prom). The DJ asked me what our name was, because he needed to introduce us, and I told him I'd get back to him in a moment. When I went back out to Nate's truck to unload more stuff, I looked over in the cab of his truck. Lying on the floor was a lug wrench. If I could have had a light bulb glow over my head at that moment, I would have. I ran back inside and suggested the idea to Josh and Nate, and they agreed. So, right now, our band is called Lug Wrench.

We're concentrating on making new material now, and making a CD that we're all sdatisfied with. Sometime in the future, I will hopefully make a page dedicated to our band, but if I do, I doubt it will be for a while.

I have recently come to realize that I like music from pretty much every single major genre. I started off listening to oldies, so I still like stuff you hear on oldies stations (Dave Clark Five, The Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone). Then I expanded to pop, and still like a lot of it (No Doubt, PUSA, Jamiroquai, and yes, even Hanson). I really got into harder music, alternative, grunge and some metal (KoRn, Deftones, Staind, Sevendust). The two types of music that I disliked the most: rap and country, I recently came to terms with, and started liking a few songs or artists (Lyle Lovett, The Dixie Chicks, Eminem, The Bloodhound Gang). I even like types of music that teenagers aren't "supposed" to like: Classical, Theatre and Jazz.

The following are small pages for some of my favorite bands.

  • Nine Inch Nails
  • Green Day
  • Nirvana
  • No Doubt
  • KoRn
