![]() Cal Zin Deemed "Appellationally Challenged""Blending an otherwise appellationally challenged Zinfandel is no simple task, claims Zinsylvanian Minister of Beverages Matthew Cline. His 1995 California Zinfandel received rave reviews upon release in what seems to be an otherwise jaded marketplace. Combining the raw Zin power for which Cline has become known and an elegant sense of fresh fruit flavors and balanced structure, Cal Zin has become a daily staple of Zinfandel lovers worldwide. The 1996 California Zinfandel, an even more exceptional effort, has pushed Matt and his small, dedicated staff to the very limits of their ability. By fearlessly stalking the state in search of hidden old vine Zinfandel vineyards, Matt has logged more than a few miles and sampled many more than a few wines. "Some argue that the California appellation lacks prestige," says Cline, "Without recognizing how beautifully Zinfandel from varied portions of the state can complement one another." |
Thus Matt has coined the term "Appellationally Challenged" to distinguish his blended Zin from those which critics might regard as more prestigious wines. "Critics, will, no doubt, view a wine designated with the California appellation as a lesser or less serious product, without recognizing the mind numbing thought and calculation required to craft such a product as our Cal Zin.
