Mourvedria--In the tiny breakaway republic of Mourvedria, situated along the banks of the Rhone River on the Franco-Californian border, Mourvedrian separatists Chief Commander Fred Cline and his brother, the three star General Matt Cline, have found their unyielding pursuit of quality a Rhonely one, indeed.
After years of armed conflict and bitter struggle, the Clines and their legion of ethnic Mourvedrians have gained their independence from the ruling vinous paradigm. To celebrate the liberation of their tiny nation, the Clines have announced the release of three wonderfully concentrated Rhone-style wines from the 1995 vintage. All will proudly bear Cline's elegant new labels.
Carignane, always a revolutionary wine, shows its full array of proud colors in Cline's new 1995 Ancient Vines bottling. Dense with chocolate, dark cherry and earthy/spicy nuances, the 1995 Ancient Vines bottling comes from a selection of Mourvedria's ( and some of the world's, for that matter) oldest, non-irrigated Carignane vineyards.
The Clines' 1995 estate bottled Syrah, albeit from a much younger vineyards source, embodies the age-old, historic pursuit of superior quality that has characterized the ethnic Mourvedrians' struggle for independence from day one. Noted for its tremendous concentration of cherry, smoke and fresh ground pepper aromas and flavors, in only two vintages the Cline Syrah has established itself as a dynamic young leader of the Mourvedrian cause.
Finally, Cline's flagship, the 1995 Ancient Vines Mourvedre is truly the essence of Mourvedrian national pride. A wine that resists simple characterization, Mourvedre is known for its rebellious aromas of dark cherry, exotic spice and eucalyptus and insurgent flavors of black fruit, earth and brown spice. The 1995 is a particularly defiant example of the varietal. And with Mourvedria's recent liberation from their vinous oppressors, a full 90% of North America's Mourvedre is now controlled by the Cline-led Mourvedrian separatists.
It has certainly been a Rhonely war for the Clines, as they have often encountered resistance from the winedom mediocrats. But the glory of victory is now theirs!!!
