Current classes Karen is teaching include:

Anyone Can Paint and Collage!

Team taught with Betsy Strebe for the Calistoga Art Center

Back by popular demand, this fast-paced, fun workshop is
expanded to introduce the techniques of collage. This relaxing
workshop is designed to help get you started. It's simply about
putting paint on a brush and getting it moving on paper or
canvas. It's also about fun - as we go through warm-up painting
techniques that are just as helpful as those you do at the gym.
Go home with at least one piece of work worthy of your wall.
If you are an experienced artist, come for the fun and maybe
learn something new. We'll use acrylic paints, due to their fast
drying ability - but what you learn can easily apply to any medium.

afraid to ask. You will learn about:

Exploring Acrylic Paints

Unleash your creativity and play with paint as you explore all
the different ways you can apply paint to paper or canvas. By
the end of the session, you'll have at least one abstract painting
to take home with you. This class is designed for both beginning
painters and experienced painters who are new to acrylics or
who just want to have fun with paint.

Creating Abstract Landscapes

Create a series of simplified abstract landscape paintings, and
have fun in the process! You'll start out learning about and
experimenting with brushstrokes, and then practice two
different approaches to painting as you create something
wall-worthy. This class is designed for both beginners and
painters who want a creative jump-start.

Landscape Painting

Learn and apply a simplified approach to landscape painting,
using a limited palette and water-soluble acrylic paints. You
will learn:

  • how to create a landscape painting from a photograph
  • how to create your composition
  • how and why to use a limited palette
  • how to give your landscapes the illusion of distance
  • some of the differences between studio painting and plein
    air painting

By the end of the class, you will have a landscape painting to
take home with you. This class is designed for people with at
least some previous painting experience. The class is repeatable.

Fun and Easy Collage Painting

Discover new creative techniques! Learn how to combine
painting, collage, relief printing, faux painting, and photo
transfer techniques to create a painting without drawing.
It's good way to recycle those old paintings on paper that
didn't work! This class is designed for both beginning and
experienced painters.
