BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Fred Euphrat

Fred Euphrat, President Fred Euphrat is a forester with doctorate in watershed management. Through his business, Forest, Soil & Water, Fred implements forest operations and water management, and conducts research in social forestry. His work is generally in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, though ranges internationally. Author of three books and more than 20 publications, Fred is on sabbatical from his weekly essays on KRCB Radio in Santa Rosa. He serves on the Carpenter Fund for the Environment and the Friends of the Russian River, and sat six years on the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space Authority. In 2002, Fred ran for Supervisor of Sonoma County, gathering more than 40% of the vote.

Brian Hines, Vice-PresidentBrian Hines is a native Santa Rosan and has been a Russian River user for over 40 years. He has a degree in Environmental Studies and Political Science from U.C. Santa Barbara and an MBA from Golden Gate University. An energy conservation consultant since 1977, he is the principal of North Coast Solar Resources in Santa Rosa. An avid salmonid fisherman and habitat restorationist he also served on Trout Unlimited's National Resources Board and is Secretary of TU's California State Council.

Virginia Strom-Martin, SecretaryVirginia Strom-Martin is a termed-out assemblymember having served the magnificent 1st Assembly District from 1996-2002. She taught elementary school in Santa Rosa for 23 and one half years prior to her election. VSM has lived on the Russian River in Duncans Mills for 25 years and is a 5th generation North Coast resident. Her wish is to see that our precious and life-sustaining environments remain pristine for generations to come.

Lynn Newton, TreasurerMs. Newton is a graphic designer and river advocate of long standing. Among the many good causes that have benefitted from her steady hand have been the the River Celebration and the Russian River Environmental Forum.

Dr. Martin GriffinThe grandfather of Russian River conservation battles and gravel wars, Dr. Griffin has a long track record in protecting the environment. In his book, Saving the Marin and Sonoma Coast, he shares his experiences and tells the stories from his early years contesting coastal development, nuclear power plants and Marin County's water policies to his recent efforts to end gravel mining on the Russian River.

Andrew Packard When he is not paddling on the river, Mr. Packard runs a public interest environmental law practice representing non-profit groups and activists throughout the State of California. Mr. Packard's firm specializes in litigating cases under the federal Clean Water Act and California's Safe Drinking Water & Toxic Enforcement Act, and has represented many members of the Keeper Alliance in California.

Tom Roth Mr. Roth is Senior Field Representative for Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma). He has also served as the a teacher, Executive Director of Friends of the Russian River, newspaper editor, and congressional press secretary.

Layne Friedrich Layne started her own environmental law practice, Lawyers for Clean Water, Inc., in 1998. Since then Layne has represented all of the keeper programs located throughout California in litigation and/or administrative advocacy. Layne is dedicated to representing environmental organizations, such as Russian Riverkeeper, in state and federal courts to advance environmental protection and enforcement of environmental laws. Layne Friedrich is a resident of Sonoma and joined the board in 2005.

Dan WickhamDr. Wickham has an MS degree in freshwater limnology and Ph.D. in Marine Ecology from UC Berkeley. Formerly a research ecologist with UC Bodega Marine Lab from 1973-1992, he currently designs wastewater treatment systems in the Russian River watershed and globally.

RUSSIAN RIVERKEEPER STAFF

Sharon Marchetti, Executive DirectorSharon has been a resident of Sonoma County for 21 years and a community advocate since 1994. She has worked extensively with communities on a wide-range of quality of life, social and environmental justice issues, cultivating citizen leadership, improving transparency in government and ensuring inclusion in decision-making and policy development. Specializing in water resource and health consequences, she has worked with several communities impacted by groundwater contamination facilitating their understanding of the impacts of pollution and finding solutions. She interfaces with government agencies, businesses and individuals at local, state and federal levels.

Don McEnhill, RiverkeeperMr. McEnhill is a Healdsburg resident with a business background who has swum and paddled the Russian River his entire life. He has been training with Keeper programs to learn about water pollution field investigation and water quality monitoring. Working with citizen groups and attorneys, he has researched water supply, water quality and land use issues in the Russian River for the past 5 years.
