Petaluma
Petaluma
is located 39 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The
Petaluma River is in the heart of the city. The historic
downtown flanks the river and lends itself to the authentic
Victorian charm of the city, a favorite with filmmakers.
To the east are the city's newer neighborhoods and shopping
centers. Surrounding the city, dairy ranches and hayfields
provide the open space, which rises to hills on both sides
of the valley. Petaluma is also the birthplace of "Telecom
Valley" one of the great centers in the country of
the telecommunications industry.
Petaluma's
climate ranges from 65-85 in the summertime with nightly
ocean breezes. Wintertime ranges from 35-60 with an average
annual rainfall of 25 inches. Population as of 2000 was
54,500 and the main businesses are Agribusiness, Telecommunications,
tourism and wine.
