Q:How Deep Is the River?

A: This is the classic novice question on any river trip. There is no answer for it except in context. Many guides have made up pat answers such as "Deeper than a duck's belly!" or why don't you jump in and find out!" The actual flow is measured in cubic feet per second ("cfs"). As it flows over the river bottom terrain, a river will be alternately deep and shallow. I imagine that questions in general share a similar topography, as do most answers.
