Mike Balter model #22 and #25 mallets from the "pro-vibes" series Deagan Aurora M-1100 with 2 AKG 460B cardiod condensor mics. Apple Powerbook G4 867 40 GB HD 756 MB Ram OSX Software - Reason, Live, Absynth Oxygen 8 midi controller Motu 828 (on Indigo card, depends on gig) What he does with it: This signal is mixed by the other channel on the Kaoss DJ Mixer. The Kaoss DJ mixer ouptput is sent through a RNC 1773 stereo compressor and sent to the main mixing board. I run the vibes through the Kaoss pad and use different FX's. Mostly delays (which I can synch up with the tap tempo button) and chorus type effects. I also sample the vibes and play back either as a rhythmic loop, or more commonly I play the sample slower and backwards and make an ambient pad. I use reason as a synth (using the Oxygen 8 as a controller, as well as a sequence player. I will play different loops along with the band, sometimes the band follows my lead, and sometimes I use the tap tempo feature in "Live" to controll Reason tempo through the "rewire" function, and can drop beats in which groove. In live I can make longer vibes samples which will also be tempo accurate through the tap tempo button. Absyth is just another crazy Virtual synth. |
