The Three Mountains (August 5-31, 1998)
I spent two weeks in Tokyo, exploring the sites and going to a huge comic convention, then climbed Mount Fuji, and finally traveled to the northern prefecture of Yamagata to visit the temples on the three sacred mountains: Haguro, Gassan, and Yudono.

Highlights:
  • August 5-13 - I explored Shinjuku and Ikebukuro wards in Tokyo
  • August 14 - I went to the "Comic Market" comic book convention and visited to the Imperial Gardens
  • August 15 - I visited the Imperial Gardens in Tokyo ward
  • August 20-21 - I conquer Mount Fuji... just barely
  • August 24 - I came face-to-face with a mummified Buddhist...
  • August 22-29 - I travel to Yamagata prefecture to climb three sacred mountains

The Saigoku Pilgrimage (July 20-August 16, 1999)
I spent four weeks in the Kyoto/Osaka area of Japan, traveling the Saigoku Pilgrimage route of thirty-three Buddhist temples sacred to the goddess of mercy, Kannon, and re-visited many tourist sites I had seen briefly back in 1990.
