ASME Sect VIII, Divs 1 & 2 expertise

I have working with the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code since the late '80s while working with Robert Cloud & Associates in Berkeley, CA.  During this time I worked with Walt Mikesell on non nuclear pressure equipment.  Mr. Mikesell contributed significantly to the development of the Design by Analysis (Div.2) methodology in the ASME and held many positions within the ASME over the years.

During my work under Mr. Mikesell I was involved with numerous projects requiring a thorough understanding of stress categorization and limits and FEA techniques to accurately define stress conditions.  These include

  •    Heavy wall petro-chemical reactors

  •    Paper pulp batch digester

  •    Equal diameter intersecting cylinders

  •    High pressure flange closures

  •    Support & nozzle loadings

                 and many more.......

In the early 90's I became involved with assisting Russian vessel fabricators in getting accredited to the ASME Code.  During this time I wrote up course work on Sect VIII Divs 1 and 2 that was used in training Russian engineers in design and fabrication specific issues.

In addition to these topics I also prepared training material in the subjects of flange design and high temperature design methods.  These were given domestically (US), in Canada and Brazil.
