![]() We have all been anxiously awaiting for the new red wine releases by master winemaker, Matt Cline! For Cline Cellars the 1996 vintage will be remebered as an exceptionally warm and short growing season--particularly, as one that favored our old vine Zinfandel, Mourvedre and Carignane grapes which we use for our Ancient Vines and vineyard designated bottlings. Late May rains reduced crop size, significantly concentrating sugars in the grapes, while consistently warm summer weather thickened skins, endowing our wines with dark, vivid colors and rich flavors. A maritime cooling trend influenced our Contra Costa vineyards in 1996, maintaining good acidity and balance in the fruit. Overall, 1996 will be noted for wines of rich forward fruit and supple tannins. ![]() A wine you do not want to miss! This Vineyard is a 9 acre block, yields a minuscule 1.25 tons per acre. Known for the smaller than average berry size, (and the larger than average field spiders that have on occasion startled an arachniphobic sugar tester), our Small Berry Vineyard produces one of the most concentrated Mourvedre's that we make. Powerfully structured with firm tannins, this wine has intense flavors of dark cherries, chocolate, mint and aromas of herbs de provence. Only 613 Cases Produced |
