Questions Re positive Drug Tests

Lately I have been getting a lot of questions about about what happens when someone test positive in a drug test. In the hopes of not having to answer this same basic question several more times I am posting this.

There is a strict set of steps that have to be followed and worked through when an athlete comes up positive in a drug test. For information about this process go here and read all the questions under the adjudication process FAQ. This FAQ gives the steps that have to be worked through and the time line for each step in the process.

There is no suspension until all the steps outlined in the FAQ have been worked through. It is only after all the steps in the due process system have been gone through that a suspension is handed down ( if the athlete is deemed guilty of having taken a banned substance). Naturally during any of the outlined steps an athlete can be judged not guilty of having broken the rules re banned substances.

Please be aware that under no circumstances can a rider get into a Pro 1/2/ race using a 1 day license. If a rider forgetts his/her license and their license status can not be verified using the current database then the rider should fill out an annual license application and ay using a credit card. If the rider does have a current license then their credit card will not be charged.

United bike Vouchers now good for up to 70 lbs on domestic travel
I got the following information today.

Sean Petty has been working hard to rectify a couple of issues with the United travel vouchers. Below are the changes. We should have the new vouchers within the next couple of weeks:

Here's the good news:
Ý1. I was able to negotiate a 70-pound limit on the domestic bike bags and asked that it be clearly stated on the voucher so there are no questions when our members or teams are checking in.Ý The previous domestic bike bag weight limit was 50 lbs.
2. These vouchers will be valid through July 31, 2005.

I know there have been concerns voiced and this should take care of any problems.

Finishline systems - Digital camera systems or chips - note that the TX local organization just bought a Finishlynx system.

Ways to increase USCF membership ( and thus increasing NCNCA revenue).

Anything else people present at the meeting want to discuss. As always anyone is welcome to attend the meeting but only NCNCA club representatives can vote on issues brought up at the meeting.

USAC has posted the list of elite men who are eligible for the Team USA Selection race for the Summmer Olympics. you can find the list here.

I just wanted to let people know the following. My mother has some serious health problems right now. She needs pretty constant attention which means I will not be making it to any races until the current situation changes. Also I might be slower than normal responding to emails. I will try to continue to respond to upgrade requests within 24 hours. I'll also try to get back to people quickly with other time sensitive questions/issues. Other emails that aren't time critical I may delay responding to pending on how much time and energy I have.

The LeGrand Preston LeGrand Road Race Cancelled

The LeGrand Preston LeGrand Road Race scheduled for May 23, 2004 is officially cancelled.Ý A major conflict has come forward regarding cattle transport that has been scheduled by a cattle rancher on that morning. The transport will tie up a 15 mile section of one paved road that is used for LPL.Ý The rancher has hired this service and to reschedule would cost him money and create very negative PR in Merced County. We do not want to jeopardize the good relationship cyclists have with the Merced County Board of Supervisors (specifically for Snelling Road Race and McLane Pacific Cycling Classic)Ýfor one single small event.

Ý Please pass on to anyone planning on attending, LeGrand Preston LeGrand will not be held this year.

Ý Regretfully,

Ý DOUG FLUETSCH

Chief Judge for a Day - At races it is the Chief Judge who determines the order of finish. At the Wente Crit. in the 1/2/Pro race we had a very close finish. The finsh helps show the limits of using video cameras since we only have images from well before the finishline and just after the riders have finished the race. Anyway you get to play Chief Judge for a day and judge the finish for your self by clicking here. Remember that the finish is determined when the leading edge of the front wheel breaks the plain of the leading edge of the finish line so in the frame shown the occured just before the captured image.
