Uncle Larry Barnes at Elkhorn Outdoors in Rio Linda said another shad school has moved into the lower American River. He went out this week for a combined 40 fish for two anglers after locating the proper depth and weight of the shad darts. He anticipated another school moving into the lower American and into the upper American in the next week.
A few resident schoolies can be found in the American on RatLTraps with the best action from Paradise Beach to Grist Mill on top water lures for experienced anglers. There have been loads of 6 to 12-inch stripers in the American with the low river flows. These schools have been seen chasing bait on the surface in the evenings.
The shad activity on the main Sacramento River and Feather River has slowed down in the past week with a few fishermen still working the mouth of the Feather at Verona. Sturgeon fishing is nonexistent, and the best striper fishing is in the Delta.
