Feather River:
Bob
Bradbury at Johnson’s
Bait in Yuba City
reported very slow
action on striped bass
in the Feather River on
Tuesday 2-7, but
a few sturgeon have been
landed on the Sacramento
River between Tisdale
and Knight’s Landing.
Rob Reimers of Rustic
Rob’s Guide Service
landed a legal sturgeon
near Knight’s Landing
this week.
Scott Feist worked the
middle Feather on
Tuesday for a handful of
stripers ranging from 5
to 12 pounds working
live minnows. Scott
reports that the
resident bass are
working over the schools
of steelies that were
released from the
hatchery this past week
and expects that more
fish will push into the
Feather as DFG chums the
river.
He is looking ahead to
the late season goose
hunt and reports that
they are seeing plenty
of specks and snows
holding in his area but
hunting success will be
dependant on the weather
and migration patterns.
This being the first
ever February goose hunt
in the Central Valley no
one knows what to
expect. This writer will
be up for three days or
more and I too am just
looking to learn what a
late season hunt will
produce.
The first ever Central Valley goose depravation hunt is a short 5 day season
running from February 18th to the 22nd.
See DFG Special goose hunt info here
Scott Feist is taking reservations for the goose hunt and has spots
available. Hunts will be dependant on weather and the number of birds in the
area. He will cancel or add trips depending on conditions.
Sacramento River:
Stewart
at Kittles Outdoors in
Colusa said the river
cleaned up nicely from
the previous rainstorm,
and the recent storm has
only put a little color
into the water. Sturgeon
fishing is best
downstream near Knight’s
Landing with few fish as
far upriver as Colusa.
They have all of the
sturgeon baits
traditionally used by
Sacramento River anglers
including ghost shrimp,
eel, and pile worms.
