Bayside
Marine
in Santa
Cruz
said
there
were a
couple
of boats
out tuna
fishing
on
Monday
10-19
at 36.31
and
122.47/48,
ranging
from 4
to 20
albacore
with a
couple
of
bluefin.
Unfortunately,
the
weather
does not
look
cooperative
for the
remainder
of the
week
with 10
to 20
knots of
wind
ramping
up to 15
to 25 in
the
afternoons
on top
of a 7
to 8
foot
swell at
11
seconds.
Local
rockfishing
remains
steady
at
Natural
Bridges,
Four-Mile,
Davenport
and
south to
Capitola.
Anglers
are
advised
to get
on and
get off
of the
ocean
early.

live
sand
crabs
have
produced
an
occasional
striper
to
16-poundsm
at Sea
Cliff
Beach.
Todd
Arcaleo
of
Chris's
Landing
in
Monterey
reported
continued
rockfish
limits
at the
local
reefs
and down
at Point
Sur on
Sunday
10-18.
The
rockfish
are
stuffing
themselves
with the
abundant
bait
fish, so
the
captains
are
having
to work
hard for
the
limits
as the
fish are
not
coming
in fast
or
furious.
They
stayed
local
the past
two days
due to a
bit of
wind on
the
outside
and the
forecast
for more
again on
Monday.
On the
tuna
front
very few
boats
have
been
venturing
out this
past
week.
There
was a
private
boat
that
braved
the
conditions
outside
at 36.31
and
1237.45
for 14
albacore
on
Saturday
10-17 with
the
majority
of the
fish on
the
troll.
The fish
ranged
from 12
to
25-pounds.
The ride
back to
the
harbor
was a
bit
nasty in
the
building
swell
conditions
with
winds
gusting
up to 20
mph.
Pick
your
weather
windows
and try
to get
out
soon.
Weather
conditions
this
time of
year can
be hit
an miss
but
October
often is
the best
time for
quality
fish for
Nor Cal
anglers.
Crabbing
opens in
just
three
weeks
and
while
this
season
will not
be
banner
it will
produce
better
counts
than
last.

Politics
and 2010
Salmon
Next
year we
should
see at
least a
short
salmon
season
but
given
the lack
of
angler
support
to help
out the
groups
fighting
the Govenator's
canal
plan,
2010
could
well be
the last
year of
ocean
salmon
in
Central
California
in our
lifetime.
Maybe
the next
generation
will get
it right
but we
sure
F&*%@!
it up
for
them.
YOU
aren't
fishing
salmon
this
year
because
the
politicos
in
Sacramento
and
Washington
DC
decided
it was
better
to grow
cotton
in the
California
desert
and put
a
subside
check on
a
millionaire
cotton
farmer's
table
(and a
contribution
to their
campaign)
than
keep
fish
swimming
in our
rivers.
Anglers
are the
last
line of
defense
but we
are so
unorginized
that
we are
going to
get
blitzed
by the
water
contractors.
There is
only one
way out
of this
mess and
it's
through
the
courts
and the
hard
work of
California Sportfishing
Protection Alliance
Please
consider
supporting
them as
they are
pushing
the
lawsuits
that
will
ensure a
future
or at
least a
hope of
us ever
salmon
fishing
in
California
again.
Our
salmon
runs
didn't
die,
they
were
stolen
from us
by a 40%
increase
in water
diversions
from the
Delta
beginning
in 2002.
Unless
water
diversions
are
rolled
back
(through
court
order
and the
litigation
of CSPA)
salmon
don't
have a
chance
of
making
it to
sea or
you or
your
children
to ever
fish for
them.
No
group
has done
more
over the
past two
decades
to
protect
fisheries
than
CSPA. In
the past
two
months
USAFishing
readers
have
raised
nearly
$10,000
for the
CSPA but
much
much
more is
needed.

all the
great

they are
doing.
