Among the types of songs on the CD are mid-thirties-style romantic swing, a tribute to Ellington's 1920s Cotton Club style, jaunty 1920s syncopated jazz, a sad and slyly witty song about a dog named Rover, a pean to the Redwoods, a rousing song about Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite, an authentic old-time  polka with sardonic lyrics, tender ballads and more. Don's songs receive considerable audience appreciation at the RSJO's performances in San Francisco and elsewhere. People are astonished when they learn that the songs are new and written by Neely. This is often not the case when bands play 'original' tunes- they get bogged down in various sticky issues like interpretation, feel, concept, familiarity, etc. You've got quite a crew there, and they're all giving 101% for your tunes, which -to get to the point of things- are GREAT!.......
